Busy as a Bee

Busy week this week.  At work and at home..next week isn’t looking real good either.  Sometimes I just have to say “No” to the extra activities that suck the life out of me.

Far Guy is going to put some extra volunteers hours in this week.  We have the Soup and Salad Luncheon fundraiser coming up on Friday.   I have all the preliminary work done for it..but there will be interruptions selling tickets this week and I have several groups coming through and one huge project and several smaller ones to complete…and who knows what else will get dropped on my desk.

I have to set a deadline for accessions so that I can get them photographed, into the computer and all the paperwork done.  I have a list of things in my head that must be completed..that list will go onto paper today..and the list will get posted for the Board Members:)  I have also scheduled work days for them:)  I have three days paid vacation coming yet this month..don’t know if I will get to take them or not.  My daughter says “Just close the doors on your scheduled days off if no one will cover for you..they will get the message that they cannot push you around.”

There will be no newsletter this quarter.  I do not have the proper program to write the newsletter unless I resurrect the old computer and get it to hobble through with the blue screen of death forty million times a day.  The proper program was ordered back in July..and it is lost in the mail someplace.

Things could be worse.  One of my long time since 1972 friends is having her leg amputated this week.  What do you say to someone who loses a limb?  Sorry about your leg..are you planning a memorial service for it?  Since her husband is also an amputee ..you are now a matched set?  You can get double the wear out of a pair of socks and shaving your legs only takes half the time?  I know she will mourn her leg. She has put up a valiant 16 month battle to keep it having endured fourteen surgeries.  ( Never..ever use a chair to reach something..get a ladder.)

I should be thanking my lucky stars to be busy, I still have two half assed good legs and a job and a husband who cooks every night and a good dog:)

  1. I know these are busy and stressful days for you at work. Sometimes it's easy to forget what's most important. My college girlfriend's husband died of a massive heart attack while driving Sunday. So sad...55 years old.
    Take care, Connie. Love you.

  2. Boy, you are a very busy lady! I know how you feel, now that I am back to school, it seems like I have a million and one things to do! I am so sorry to hear about your friend, but I quess the bright side of things is that it is a limb rather than a life. I bought flowers this year of the ones you posted and I love the blooms!

  3. I wonder if Emily Post ever worked out the proper etiquette for the situation you are in viz. the lost leg. Maybe you could write to Dear Abby?

  4. P.s., I don't know what you use to write/publish your newsletter - I could probably donate a copy.

Also, OpenOffice is really quite good (and free!) www.openoffice.org

  5. All that happened to her because she fell off a chair? I am so sorry to hear about her losing her leg. You are a good friend, no matter what you end up saying to her! I'm sure she knows you care.

  6. One doesn't have to look very far to find someone who is worse off. Prayers go out to your friend for courage and strength to accept.

  7. No clue what you say to that friend - just what you feel, I guess. You need to take those vacation days; close the door as your daughter said! Better days ahead...

  8. You are one busy lady. Sorry to hear about your friends leg - all that from a fall off a chair. I guess just being there for her is what she really needs.

  9. Just let your friend know that you care and you will help when you can.

  10. I really like your "be thankful" list. It does get down to the bare necessities when we face the life in front of us. Stay tough!!!!

  11. Falling off a chair. Now that's something to think about. I'm grateful I have a sturdy step stool and rolling chairs I'd never stand on. Just speak from the heart and you're always doing your best. So sad.

I agree with your daughter. I'd warn them, though. I'd tell them I have planned such and such day/days off and they should make arrangements or the museum will be closed. But then follow through--go visiting, traveling in search of shiny brites and trains, or sleep all day. Once should be enough. ;)

  12. I fell from one of our kitchen wooden chairs, nearly broke my neck, NEVER NEVER again, did I do that, I would rather not reach anyplace than to lose my life or limb..you are a treasured friend, when things happen in a persons life one can be assured that a treasured friend is a jewel in the upheavel..Sending prayers out to the Lord for a less painful life than the surgeries she has had and for you to be able to just be there for her..god bless you, shut the door and you will get the much needed time off you certainly need..Peace to your friend and to you!!!!!!!

  13. I think you keep that museum running single handedly with the able help from Far Guy. If it weren't for you, they probably would have to close it. I hope you are well compensated. It's going to be tough to find the right words to say to your friend. There is no easy solution for a case like this but your heart is in the right place and the words will come. Good luck with everything.

  14. You need to take some R&R time , if your entitled to it take it , your health isn't worth it and believe me I know . I was the same always working running around like a chicken with its head cut off for a job and I got ill from it! I am retired now and am soo pleased that I don't have to do that any more and my health is better for it ! Sorry to hear about your friend losing her leg , I am sure you will speak from the heart and reassure her all will be ok ! Good luck with it all !

  15. I like what your daughter said, and a day off is a day off. They take days off, why can't you?

Your poor friend, who tragic, all because she fell?

  16. The being super busy makes life interesting even if it seems like too much.
Heavies like your friends health are another thing. I hope that she copes with this loss and recuperates well..

  17. It seems like work can be either feast or famine but as you said, it is good to be healthy enough to do what needs to be done. Putting things in perspective does make a huge difference.

  18. now you have my mind going over hurdles thinking of more horrid things to say .. in a silly way, of course. But I'm sure you will just take her hand and squeeze it and she'll know what you are thinking.

Hope you took your days off. I remember being so dedicated -- that it hurt my health.
