The pie bakery will not be opening soon. It was a lot of work and I would never be able to resist tasting them all. The pies turned out okay. My Son In Law said “ I didn’t think you were a pie baker..but I guess you are.”
I gathered all the ingredients and the chosen recipes and I moved into Jens kitchen and baked them.
I have made a Pumpkin Pie before. I could not find the can opener. I asked Adam “If you were a can opener where would you be in your Mom’s kitchen?” He replied, “I have no idea.” Far Guy came to the rescue. Jen had some new kind of fancy smancy can opener that is kid safe and grandparent safe too..because it took us a half an hour to open a can of pumpkin… and then only because Far Guy went through the motions without realizing he had opened the can. I have never seen the likes of that can opener before.
This pie was tasty. Far Guy told the Grands.. “You know kids, I never used to like pumpkin pie, but now I do.” They decided that he had old taste buds..as none of them like pumpkin pie.
I used two different kind of apples..Granny Smith and Pink Ladies. It was nice and tart!
I still don’t have that crust push pull look pretty edge technique down correctly.
Late at night, Maddie and Noah volunteered to help me create the Chocolate Caramel Pie…the kitchen was a lefsa factory for quite awhile..before it could go back to being a pie bakery. I had everything pre measured..so it was easy. Maddie melted the dark baking chocolate and Noah stirred.
I am sure it had a gazillion calories:)
They all look really tasty, Connie. That last one does look decadent, though. Pumpkin is my favorite...
ReplyDeleteI was over at my son & DIL's cat sitting. Their cat's like a little canned pumpkin with their cat food and it keeps the one cat with the delicate stomach from upchucking so much. (Who knew?) But--they had one of those new-fangled can openers. too, and it took me about 20minutes of fiddling and I still couldn't get it open. I gave up, went to move the can, and the cover came off. I don't know when or how I got it off, either--LOL! :)
ReplyDeleteThe pies all look delicious. That last one just looks like calories in a pie shell, but yum, I'd try it! ;)
Pink lady is one of my favorite apples to eat. Your pies look really good!!!! We are having our Thanksgiving dinner tonight, sister Michelle wants to have pie before dinner because we are usually to full to enjoy it, that is just fine by me......I love pie!
ReplyDeleteI would like to place a order for one of each please. To go....I think that I could use some really good pie right now.
ReplyDeleteThe can opener story is funny, I am sure that it would stump me too....I find the ordinary ones hard enough.
And I still can't get the rim of the pies nice and squished, there is always a finger poking through...LOL.

Oooo - that chocolate creation looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteYour crust was the first thing I noticed when I looked at the pumpkin pie recipe. It looks great and I like the edging ... that you say you don't have down... I say it looks pretty darn good... as do the pies! Yum!
ReplyDeleteI will take lefsa over pie any day! Wish you'd come teach me how to make it. We tried last year and it didn't work. Cindy's Grandma and my Mom made great lefsa but we screwed up and never got them to teach us, before they couldn't anymore.
ReplyDeleteThey look SOOOOOO good! Sounds like you guys had a fun time. I would love your apple pie!
ReplyDeletePie is such a treat! My favorite, by far, is pumpkin followed by rhubarb.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I see, I'd say you are definitely a pastry chef.
YUM!
ReplyDeleteThey all look YUMMY to me even though I dont like pumpkin pie either lol ! Blueberry is my and Papa's fav as a matter of fact Blueberry anything is what we love lol ! But heck if its dessert and ooowy goowy we will eat it lol ! Have a great day !
ReplyDeleteMMMMMmmmmm....where's the ice cream?:)
ReplyDeleteI think I gained a pound just looking at the pies.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE apple pies - - my favorite! But I don't bake them - - - too much work! Sounds like you made memories along with the gazillion calories in the last one - - - but I bet it was scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I need the recipe for the cholate one. Makes my mouth water!
ReplyDeleteI love cooking with my grandchildren. Was wondering who rolled all that lefsa out. glad you guys had help.
Oh I'm sure it did, but oh well. That is what Thanksgiving is all about!

The pies look delicious. Our grandkids helped Peter make the pumpkin pie, and Augie had seconds. (I grew up on the Iron Range and tried many of the different national foods but I never had lefse. Or lutefisk, either.)
ReplyDeleteI made pumpkin and apple too and believe it or not, they looked just like yours - and yes, they were tasty. I know what you mean about those new fangled can openers. I had one and got rid of it because I just hated it. Now I have the old hand held one. Hubby is NOT happy. He wants the new kind. I asked him who opens the most cans!
ReplyDeleteThe chocolate caramel pie looks luscious. I need that recipe :)
ReplyDeleteEvery single one looks wonderful! I would have to try just a little piece of each. It was so nice to see you pop in at my new blog. I hope all has been well in your world. Tell Far Guy hello from me too :-)
ReplyDeletePumpkin pie is my favorite. In fact I like pie period. Nice touch on the pies and photography.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved pumpkin pie!
ReplyDeleteDouble crusts, in particular, elude me, too.
Have a wonderful Sunday!
The look great to me! I didn't get a chance to make any this year, but tonight I'm baking a CRUSTLESS pumpkin pie. Solves that problem of crimping the edge nicely, and also the fat of the crust. We'll see how it turns out.
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny about the pumpkin. I spent years not liking apple. Started liking it just after high school, now I love it. I didn't like pumpkin for a few years, had something to do with stomach flu the night of Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteThose new can openers are awesome, once you get the hang of it.
Oh and by the way, don't worry about your pies edges, just call them rustic and artisan, then sell them for four times a regular one!
Oh wow, they all look great. My wife makes great pies but doesn't like to do it. We had pumpkin pie as our treat for the two of us. We usually have four pies when everyone was home and alive.
ReplyDeleteI can never look at a chocolate pie again so eager as I did in the past - now that I have read "The Help." (hee ha ha ha ha ha)
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't read it - DO!
I like to scatter blueberries, or blackberries, or cranberries on my apple pies .. oh they are so pretty and have such a delightful flavor when done baking.
oh... I have one of those can openers. It is great for recycling -- of for some things you can put the lid back on and put the can back in the fridge for a bit
