Ha! I bet that got your attention. This is one of the coolest footstools I have ever seen.
This was a footstool down at the Wadena Historical Museum. They have a really nice Museum and they are open year round, so I will head over there again sometime next winter. I was tempted to turn it over and look at the bottom. I know better than to touch! I try to enforce the “Look but do not touch” policy..and I know how hard it is not to touch..especially for children.
I am working on a couple of hands on displays for children. I think that children learn by touching and doing more than they do by listening to some old lady drone on and on. I have a display up and running now..but no kids have tried it yet…eventually I would like to have one or two children’s activities per room. I am anxious for feedback from a few kids…or maybe some little kids at heart..I tried it and thought it was fun. I will share after I get some feedback:)

Yup. It's horny all right. And I'm sure I've got that same rock picture from childhood to with my eldest grandson a couple of years ago. And you right it was a spectacular year for those Dames...rockets that is.. :)
ReplyDeleteI think that middle horn is to help you get your boots off, right? Otherwise it's kind of in the way. Cool footstool, though. I hope you get some kids in to try your hands on stuff and I get to hear about their reaction.

ReplyDeleteI LOVE seeing and trying hands-on exhibits for kids (and adults). I've taken enough kids through museums and know that you have to 'catch' them - they won't stick around and read much! I've often thought that designing exhibits would have been a fun sideline career for me! I can't wait to hear more about what you came up with!
Many years ago I took my young boys to the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia - I was in awe. I just checked out their website - and I'm in awe again! I know that what they have is way more impressive than pictures could ever show - their exhibits have changed... wish I could take my boys there again - even at 22 and 25 I think they'd have fun!!
I really like hands on displays...must mean I'm a kid at heart...

Wonderful idea~ We have a whole separate children's museum in Marquette where all displays have either touch, smell or music...tactile and fun for most of them and the kids love it.
ReplyDeleteHands-on is always a great way to get kids' attention and help them remember. Good for you for putting the display together. The people who hired you got a valuable employee.

ReplyDeleteIt was always difficult to visit museums etc. with mama because she could not see the displays. I like the idea of "hands on."
It looks like something right out of Harry Potter!

ReplyDeleteIt sure doesn't look like a footstool that you would want to have your bare feet near.
ReplyDeleteKids with cowbells or old butter churns, they would have fun. Well maybe not the bells, too noisy.
Some kids are the touchy feely type but not all. We find that computer terminals with programs that lead kids through a process work well, but that's a big project which requires outside expertise.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you can find some great hands-on displays for children. It is difficult for them to pay attention or be still longer than a minute per their years of age.
