Tire Art

I have seen some tire art. IMG_2105

This one was cute..perfect if you a little person with a little butt and you like horses.  There is a whole herd of these tires at our local Farm Supply store.

IMG_6035This is more like it..an old lady planter.

I found this one day when Jo and I were out garage saleing.  I asked the old lady if I could take a photo of her planter..she said “sure”.  I would have painted the tail on both sides.

If I had this planter I would plant it full of Gazanias..they like it really warm..they thrive and bloom in just about any conditions.

I looked through all my flower photos for a photo of a Gazania. Do you suppose I could find even one lousy photo..nope. The only problem with this plants bloom is that they must have sunshine to open and show their blooms..on a cloudy day they stay closed..independent little cusses.

We still have snow it did not melt:(

  1. I have seen the horse swing cut from one old tire but this one is extra adorable.

    The bird wins, hands down!

  3. We used to have pasture fencing made from long thin strips cut from tires. The idea seemed good, but hard to get tight enough, and too easy for the horses to put their heads between.
That is a very colourful planter:)

  4. We don't have tire art in the PNW, obviously we believe in burning them, okay, I'm kidding. But really I've not seen something clever done with tires in a along time. Dirt wonders where all the rubber that wears off of tires goes, he estimates with all the folks drivin' and replacing tires that we oughta have drifts of rubber on the roadsides... Have a good weekend, I'm off to the north country to see Justin, Anna, the new bunnies and daffodils!

  5. I like the old lady planter...now what does that say about me??? Heeehehhe!!!

I was awaken' several times durin' the night with the sleet hittin' the windows. My poor deck is ice covered right now and here I heard it rumored that it was Spring! :o)

God bless and have a fantastic Friday sweetie!!!

  6. Soon the snow will be gone and you'll see lots of green. We have green and yellow on everything here and is causing allergies to kick it up. Those are some very creative uses for tires. I love the tire art.

  7. Someone was very clever making that bird planter. I like it too. I've never seen one around these parts, but if I ever do, I'm going to snag it. I've got a couple of shepherd's hooks just ready and waiting for flowers to be hung from them.

  9. re the parrot. One of our neighbors put a ten foot parrot cutout just like it inside an old but repainted conical corn bin. Its an amazing sight when you drive by.

  11. I would certainly love one of the planters, but I'd want a chicken or a pig or some such. ;)

  12. Even though you have snow on the ground, I can tell you have spring in your heart and on your mind by the pictures you have posted.

  14. I usually have a few Gazanias planted -- and I've noticed they really don't like the shade.

Interesting way to recycle old tires. Do you know that if you bury old tires they will eventually find their way to the surface?

  15. That bird is just wonderful! The horse is fun for little ones, but it does look a little tire-d! ;-)

  16. Are you going to make a tire bird planter? There is an empty house down the street from us with a couple outer buildings and some tires standing in one of the buildings. I wonder who I talk to about obtaining the tires.

  18. Cool tire shots. I love it when people get creative with ordinary materials. :)

Wishing for more melt with you, dear lady. It's coming, isn't it?

  19. Love your tire. I make these myself and have sold lots of them around the Myrtle Beach area. I usually put an asparagus fern in mine. I have one planted with a Rabbits Foot Fern and the feet have grown out the sides and underneath the tire. Its definitely a conversation piece. I really like the face on yours.
