A Lost Art
Last summer I had the unique opportunity to meet someone who practices a lost art. I met her before I found out that she had a blog, she had been taking a little time off from her photo blog..but she is back again.. she is a very talented photographer too!
I took some photos the day that I met her at The Lake Itasca Pioneer Farmers Show. I was amazed at her handiwork. One of the things that is on my list of things to do is to call my local Community Education Program and request that she give a class. I spoke to a few of my cousins, they are all quite interested in attending a class..I just need to find an old wheel now..
Faylin weaves round rag rugs on a wheel. She was giving a demonstration. I do not begin to remember everything that she told me. I do know that she made it all look fairly simple and it is an art that I am sure that I would enjoy learning. She lives in North Dakota.. and her blog is called Picture The Promises. Pop on over to her blog and say hi you will be glad that you did! :)

That is fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing this, Connie. You always find the most wonderful things!
ReplyDeleteLike basket weaving, fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThat really is a lost art. Thanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteSunny :)
That is just beautiful! I know it's much harder but it reminds me a little of the potholders I wove as a kid on the little square plastic loom. I always enjoyed that craft and wouldn't these rugs be pretty to display? I'll pay Faylin a visit. Thanks Connie and enjoy your Monday.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments on my blogs, Connie. I think this art is fascinating! I just decided it's time for me to venture into making a sweater since my knitting is back up to snuff, I'll wait awhile before taking up rug weaving, but I sure hope you do!
ReplyDeleteCool! I want to learn! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen that ever before but it looks very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing - and the rug is so pretty too! Still, not for me as I am challenged in all things domestic...
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful! It also makes me want to learn how to do it. I have an old wheel I can use....

Connie, you put this together very well! Thank you for putting the info out there! Thanks too for stopping by the blog and sending some new friends over. Have a great day! Faylin
ReplyDeleteWoW, how great is that?
ReplyDeleteHave a fab day!!!
I've a bunch of old sheets around here I'll have to try that with. I've a couple of wheel rims out in the BOssman's treasure pile too;)
ReplyDeleteSister Candy loves that kind of rug weaving. I'll tell her about it.
ReplyDeleteThat looks pretty interesting!!I love all things handmade!!
ReplyDeleteI've not seen that before, it turns out very pretty. Very interesting and it looks like it might not be overly difficult to learn.
ReplyDeleteI have tried that rug weaving on my own, on a large craft hoop and it didn't turn out. I need to see it done along with reading instructions. But I now have a wheel and am ready to try again. Thanks for the reminder. The pictures are great.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing that. My grandma grace did a very similar pattern - mostly ovals, tho
ReplyDeleteI love it. If she comes to do a class, let me know. I would love to learn how to do that.
ReplyDeleteMy interest is thoroughly peaked.
