18

This blog is eighteen years old.  Hard to believe its teen age years are almost over.

 I usually give myself flowers.

Well here they are... Autumn Joy Sedum covered in snow.
It kinda fits the snowy day we had on Sunday.

If you are a long time/ part time reader/commenter you are partly to blame for me still blogging.  So thanks for that!  The blogging community is a wonderful group, many of you  are like family!  Thank you for sharing your lives with me!

I shall continue on with the daily drivel.

Minnesota weather; Snowy and some wind.  High 8F or  -13C Low was -9F or -22C  We have a blizzard warning through Sunday night into Monday morning.

Andy ventured out to pick up pizza so that was a great supper!

 Happy Bloggiversary to me!

12 Years

Well...I have been blogging for twelve years.   My family says "She has no filter and is brutally honest."   Guess it must be true.

Whoever still reads this everyday...you need a medal.  I know Far Guy reads it but has given up talking to me about it...I think he must be kinda like a duck and lets the water flow off his back.

It snowed a little...must be a pre storm snowfall. We are ready for winter storm Gage.

I cleared off the patio from the last four inches...so we can start anew.
I accomplished some errands outside.   Far Guy has a very sore throat possibly a cold coming on so he rested quite a bit yesterday.  One day at a time.

I usually give myself flowers on this my blogging anniversary.

The Poinsettias caught my eye one day.  The red bracts are so vibrant.  The actual Poinsettia flowers are the little yellow/green nubins in the center of the bracts (modified leaves) enough horticulture for today!

I guess I shall continue to blog...it is what I do.  It serves as a great journal if nothing else.

Eight Years

I began this blog in 2007 on December 28, it only appeared locally in the online newspaper as a wordpress blog.  Recently I found out that those early blog posts have been archived.   Not sure if I can resurrect them or not.  I do have hard copies of them all…I think.  That is a project for the new year.

I began writing on blogspot on September 5, 2008.  At that time I wondered what would happen to the blog entries and worried that someday they would all be lost.  I wrote the same exact thing and published both wordpress and blogspot with live writer.  I published with wordpress for six years then I abandoned the blog that appeared in the Fargo Forum online.  It was like giving up a baby… but I had to make the decision because they wouldn’t allow me more photo storage.

Live Writer was the best software ever to write blogs with.  Now it is called Open Live Writer and has a few bugs which may or may not get worked out, some wonderful Microsoft volunteers took it over and are working on it.

So anyways I have reached another milestone. Eight years…hardly seems possible.six ladys slippers

I have thought about it and I still have some stories to tell and photos to share.  So I will continue.  After all I am retired…the evenings get long up here in Minnesota especially in the winter.  Television is not all that exciting most nights.   I read, play a few card/word games online and write the blog.  I am a night person so most nights I am up past midnight anyway.  I do my best sleeping in the morning.

Other than Wistful Wednesday I have no idea what I will write about until I sit down at the computer.  Most times I just think..okay what do I want to share with my best friend, my children and my grands?  Sometimes I am just bitchy…I write it all down and then delete it. Then I can go on and write something nice…most times.

My brothers say I have no tact very little tact.  Some days that is very true, I tell it the way I see it….I used to say I tell it like it is…but my husband says that is not true, so I just go with his flow.

Humble

There is some old country song out there that goes kinda like this “OH..Lord it’s hard to be humble when you are perfect in everyway.”
Cons headers-p0025
Yesterday something spectacular happened to me.  I got an atta girl..from my peers..some very special peers.  The Blogger folks selected my Forgotten Old Photos blog as the Blog of Note for November 15, 2010.   I was/am stoked..and still grinning from ear to ear! They have thousands maybe millions of blogs to choose from and only choose about 260 blogs a year..and mine was one!!!

I am not sure if ya’ll know this.  My regular blog Far Side of Fifty also appears locally in a Word Press foremat and can be picked up by many of the small papers in North Dakota and Minnesota that are part of the Forum Communications Network. Area Voices is where I began blogging almost three years ago.  Far Side of Fifty is featured in many local newspapers online as an Area Voice.

EXCEPT..the local paper in the town 14 miles from where I live.  Even though I have contacted them several times..and once I even answered a plea by them for local blogs and bloggers.  Perhaps I am too controversial for them…perhaps since I write the truth from my point of view, I make them too nervous or uncomfortable. Who knows perhaps I embarrass them..maybe I am too back woodsy or too cranky.

Whatever..and since I am going to practice being humble about this award.  Any writers from THAT local newspaper will be last on my list of interviewers..If they call me..after all they do have my phone number..I will humbly say “NO comment at this time..wait in line buster.”

In all seriousness..I can be serious sometimes.  Forgotten Old Photos has been a labor of love and a way for me to give something back to several families. I have several people I work closely with to make the blog come alive, namely Abra, Norkio and Iggy. Without them, the blog wouldn’t be nearly as interesting as it is.  I am only the wordy writer that follows the old photo muse:)

I have been busy..

This is just a rough layout..it may or may not be the actual two page spread. Most likely it will be ..this trip was back in 2007, just Far Guy and Chance and I off exploring in Michigan.

My chair was really uncomfortable, I could not get it adjusted correctly..so I did what any other Mother would have done..I stole Jens..this mornings conversation went like this “ MOTHER did you mess with my chair?”..she had spent about twenty minutes last night adjusting it so it would be just perfect for her.  Little did she know that it was perfect for me too.  I replied “ Nope I did not mess with it..I stole it.”  I expect that when I take a break and leave the room she will steal it back.

Oh yeah..this entry is supposed to be about milestones.. how many blog entries do you suppose I have as of today?  Who woulda thunk it..I wanted to get more better at writing.  I guess I will have to continue..onward and forward.

One thousand entries have been made at this blog…I still have more to say, I am not sure what it is yet..but I am not out of words… yet.    I would like to thank all my readers and commenter's who have made me a legend in my own mind.

There is a mirror above the kitchen sink here, I peeked.. and there is some old woman in there:)
