Making Progress

I finally saved all the photographs on my old computer, photos were copied to flash drives and the  HP Simple Saves were wiped clean.  Simple Saves are awesome if you use Windows.  They are not compatible with a Mac.

Kind of bittersweet as I had that old Windows 7  Desktop since 2011 and it had great photo editing software! AND it still worked a bit slow but it worked...they no longer did updates to Windows 7 so the writing was on the wall. ... the hard drive will be smashed and the rest recycled.  I did run into some great photos...they still need to be organized...a good project for the winter!  I may even order some prints over the winter.  Added bonus is the table that computer sat on is now all cleaned up...one area looks less cluttered!

I have been busy with lots of projects.   I am finishing up a Christmas gift and spent some time upstairs organizing stuff...one thing leads to another to another.

130 Christmas Cards were mailed.  One last ornament was mailed to someone special!

Here is part five of my afghan.

I am still waiting for the yarn for the Winter Wonderland afghan to get here.  It is being held hostage in West Fargo ND, I finally had the Post Office nice gal that has a working brain track it down as it has been in West Fargo for eight days.  In the meantime I began working on part six of the afghan pictured.   It has one more part and then the border.

My fever blisters( from the fever I had after the Covid Shot) are just about healed up.  That is a relief!

We had a quiet Thanksgiving Day.

Busy, Busy

Well March came in like a lamb..36F or 2 C.  Dreary with no wind. It was a catch up day.

A huge mailing went out for the Historical Museum.  Four tickets for The Chuck Wagon Dinner next month were mailed to each member of the Historical Society to be pre sold..one of my fantabulous ideas..we will see if it works..or if I have just managed to irritate the entire membership.  The Board approved my suggestion.  I really need a fund raising committee. This was no small project, I designed and printed the tickets and wrote the letter and then stuffed envelopes for hours.  The tickets had to be numbered and a master tracking list compiled.

Nine weeks and I will be back at work.  It is not nearly enough time for me to finish all of my projects here at home.  Of course it didn’t help that I was sick for a whole week. I made a new list and had to carry over a few projects from last month.

Far Guy and I rushed into town to help measure some rooms in the museum.  Measurements were needed so that the President can write a grant for paint. It was colder in the building than it was outside.  Far Guy said he nearly “Froze to death.”

Our personal taxes are finally compiled and are ready for the accountant. Yay!

I backed up my photo files for January and February.

I finished scanning all of my old photos from my childhood albums and made copies.  I also arranged all the photos in the albums..and marked each and every photo on the back..who and when and sometimes where and why.

I mailed off a CD copy of family photos to one of Far Guys third or forth cousins..he found my blog one day and recognized his Grandmothers sisters.  Funny how those things happen..I think it is a “God thing”  ..as it turns out he writes a blog about his family history too.  We can learn much from others.

Far Guys biopsy reports came back just fine, he had tubular adenomas, they were benign.  They want him to repeat the colonoscopy in two years.

I ordered my favorite bath soap.  Shipping was free as long as you ordered 50 dollars worth of product from Target. So I ordered 24 bottles..that should last me about two years.

Far Side Soap

It was delivered and I squirreled them away in the bathroom closet. St Ives Apricot Exfoliating Bath Soap is only available online in our area.  I am not sure why..but I have tried to special order it through our local grocery store..it remains unavailable to them.

I am not quite sure what projects I will tackle tomorrow.  Perhaps I will scan some misc. photos that have been hanging around in a basket on my desk for about a year:)

Backing Up "Stuff"

The new external hard drive ( Hp SimpleSave)  works just fine..it was a little dicey when I started to delete photo files from my computer..I went back to make sure they were still there several times. Far Guy said "be brave" .. there is no turning back once the recycle bin make that dumping sound.  Several files were to large to send there..so they are just deleted permanently.. "This file is too big for your recycle bin..are you sure you want to delete this folder and all it's contents?"    Big gulp.. but the good news is ..I gained back 50 percent of my available space..from 6 percent to 50 percent..that is a big increase..and I could have sent more files to the bin..but when I reached 50 percent..I called it good.  So that project was a success!!

Now I have a question..I have been backing up my photos to Cd's..how long do they last before they lose their integrity?  And where is the best place to store them? So far I just put mine in a photo storage boxes, that I keep in an armoire.  Technically..I shouldn't have to back up to Cd's anymore ..but I would better be safe than sorry..so I will continue.  More "stuff" for the kids to throw out when we are old and decrepit.

Today is the first day that there is even a hint of Spring in the air.   Snow is melting and we have puddles...by the end of the day we might even have some mud..whoohoo..I am sure it is just a little taste of spring....winter will rear its ugly head in a day or two:)
