Wistful Wednesday: Happy Boys

The twins use to live next door. They were almost the same age as Chance.  At first hey were afraid of him and would scream bloody murder when their Mom pushed them over in the stroller.  Chance was confused as he loved all kids.  He didn’t like children crying…he was raised on a farm with lots of small children….I think maybe the Mom there raised her voice when children were crying..so crying children made Chance nervous.

As the twins grew older they began to throw the ball for Chance and eventually out grew their fear of dogs. Their Grandfather would hold the twins in his lap and then let them throw the ball. Now they have two dogs in their family!

The Boys and Toys

Everyone looks so happy in this photo.  I can almost hear Gavin giggling.  Chance loved these boys very much and they loved him too. Chance tried to kidnap Jordan once or twice.

I think most everyone that met Chance loved him very much. We still miss him…everyday.

  1. I know Morris was always so sad to see the kids go. Especially the times that we had the grand kids here for a week. He'd lay on the couch and just not move for a couple of days. Doggy depression.

  3. So many great Chance tales and he was so loved by so many. He is not forgotten at all! I never even met him in person but felt I knew him though your blog. I know you are still healing and will never forget him. He was so blessed to have you 2 as 'parents'.

  4. I went and checked the other post...as I said sweet memories. The other side of the coin for me is we had a neighbor back when ours were little that the girls loved...I miss her to this day. My youngest was always going next door to have cookies and milk with her...and she did sneak over there once and told Aunt Luddy (her real name was Lilly, but she called herself Aunt Luddy to the kids) we knew she was there, but she called us to make sure cause she knew we didn't just let them come without being asked.

  5. Our furry family members leave such an imprint on our lives. I don't think we ever truly get completely over the loss of them. You lost Chance about 6 weeks after we lost our kitty Mistletoe... at 16 years old. A day still doesn't go by that I don't miss him. May the memories of Chance & Mistletoe stay in our minds forever.... until we join them. Love, Andrea xoxo

  7. It is a wonderful shot of him with the boys. Chance was a positive influence on those guys as they grew up together. We got to see an almost three year old grandson on FaceTime last night and it was the happiest the I have seen my wife for a while. It is strange how a dog can be pretty much a part of everything we do all day every day. I vacuumed yesterday and there are still trace of our guy hanging around.

  8. I read this post and then I read the one about the kidnapping. I have tears in my eyes. Chance was a very special dog and was so well loved. I know that he knew it. Here I am. I’ve never even met him, but through your photos and stories I feel like I knew his sweet soul. He sounds like he was much like my sweet Chloe. I don’t even want to think about life without her.
    Many blessings, Betsy

  10. I still miss Karma, too. Not that Annie hasn't turned into quite a good companion. Karma had a distinct strong personality, like Chance. Some critters are just special. I still miss all the Chance stories.

  13. Our grands were all afraid of our dog at first too... isn't it funny that it starts that way and then they become such good buddies?

  14. Sweet memory, and i remember when Chance herded one of the twins. Bob isn’t really a fan of kids. She loves the attention but is confused about how to play with them. She’s used to us old folks, i guess!

  16. I don't think we ever entirely get over losing a special pet, like Chance. They are such an integral part of our world. You have such sweet memories of this lovely boy.

  17. That Chance was some special dog!! This might sound kind of weird, but every day when I hike in the fields with my dogs, I always write Scout's name in the snow, so he knows that I am always thinking about him!

  21. Every kid needs a good dog. It should be a law that when you have a kid they automatically get a dog.
