I planted this Sedum about 19 years ago along my garage. It used to be just covered with Bumble Bees in the Fall…
Not so much this year. I think that is a Common Eastern Bumble Bee on the left and a Red Belted Bumble Bee on the right.
We just don’t have bees like we used to.

ReplyDeleteYou even know your bees? You are amazing! I couldn't tell one from another except for yellow jackets and sweat bees. I have a volunteer pumpkin plant again this year (could it be because I throw the rotten ones off the front porch into the grass? LOL!). The bees are all over those flowers! Happy to see it! YOur sedum is so pretty.

ReplyDeleteWe've noted the lack of butterflies on the Butterfly Transect this year. We've had three walks when we didn't see one. First year out of the five we have been walking that this has happened.
ReplyDeleteOur county parks district is putting together an educational program for the schools about our pollinators and what we can do to increase their numbers.
I hope our bees will recover and be numerous once again. Thanks for the pretty painted ladies pictures, too. :-)

ReplyDeletePainted Ladies are the only Butterfly we seem to get aside from the Cabbage Whites. Sedum does attract them, doesn't it.

ReplyDeleteSomeone in our neighborhood of modern people has bees. They show a photo of two hives set up inside of a small metal shed in their suburbia back yard. I don't know where they are but I have seen honey bees on flowers here. My friend in Woodward made all my fruit trees have fruit with his bees bring around.
