I attended a photography class with my youngest daughter Jen. It was a fun afternoon of classroom and some practice outside. It was about 20 F so the weather was not too cold.
I learned a few things. I have a new appreciation for Spot Metering and I got in the P mode (program) something I have not ventured into before. Canon people should all sit together, especially when the instructor has a Nikon! We can learn from each other. It was fun to see a couple of teenage girls with new cameras! There were several people with point and shoot cameras also. The Instructor said that in order to take good photos you should have a fully charged battery and a SD card in your camera.
We went outside for a short photo session, I did not go out on the lake (it was very icy) but found several good subjects near the building.

I get bored with photography in the winter, so this class was a good one for me to take. You are never too old to learn something new!
This was a free class put on by the Lake Bemidji State Park, the Instructor was retired Law Enforcement with the Minnesota BCA. Crime scene photos were her specialty.
Yes, having an SD card and a full battery really help don't they! Nice Nuthatch.
ReplyDeleteI remember my mother laughing so much after she met a woman (total stranger) who had never heard Nuthatch pronounced out loud. She called it Nuth-atch. I hope she found a nice friend to put her right.
I am discovering that I am never too old to learn something new! Just when I think I am a master of something, I get someone who helps me see things from a different angle!
ReplyDeleteNo, we're never too old too old to learn something new, but I find I'm not interested these days, unless there is a purpose! And I'm finding, that once I decide to learn something, and am motivated, that my learning ability is as strong as ever as I age!

ReplyDeleteGood work on those close ups. I have a fancy camera but I have never been successful using the P mode. I really should have taken classes a long time ago. Nothing's free around here though.

eu....crime scene photos.....I would probably lose any love for photography after that career but I know it is necessary. Glad you learned a few new tips and tricks although I think you are already very good!

ReplyDeleteGosh, when you say 20 F, not too cold, I feel ashamed of myself for complaining. You are so smart! I could sure use some lessons in photography and maybe a newer better camera. That about the SD card and fully charged battery helps though. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI would love to take a photography class for some inspiration but the ones near me are always very expensive. That is really a nice photo of the r-b nuthatch. The w-b ones are regular visitors here and today we had a Baltimore Oriole! Boy, was he hungry. You could watch the feed in the tube go down as he ate for 40 minutes!

Lovely photos . The cold really sucks the life out of digital camera batteries so I have two batteries in my camera at all times I have a battery pack that is attached to mine as part of the camera and remarkably still small and light weight .. yes I use a Nikon. I love the digital as I used to use a film camera many years ago and then developed my own photos back in day digital and computers are so much easier and fun . Hubs and I both do photography and team up sometimes and do photography for clients who want to sell horses and take photos for them or have their photos in competitions with their horses ie barrel racing etc . I love photography it is a passion of mine as is photographing nature and I actually feel naked when my camera is not in my hand and I happen to be outside lol ! ReplyDeleteIt is good to get new ideas. My son handed me his fancy dancey camera in the pew, very little instruction and really had to wing it. I didn't get a lot of photos for him. Others were taking shots so he did gets some good ones.
