Ship Shape Shirts

Some things bother me and I cannot help myself.  I have some OCD.

I noticed all of Far Guys shirts were mixed up in the closet…he carries away his own laundry.  There was no rhyme or reason to the organization…cause there was none, the summer wild print shirts were here and there not in their group.  The long sleeved shirts were hanging with the short sleeved shirts…it was all willy nilly.  Instead of being bitchy about it I fixed them all.  I came out of the bedroom and said “Did you know that your short sleeved shirts were all messed up with your long sleeved shirts?”  He grinned at me and said “Oh my that must be why I slept so badly last night.”  Then he said “They were in numerical order.” FUNNY.

My shirts are separated by sleeve length and then by color …pink, blues, turquoise, peach, green, yellow, red, black, white and prints.  I hang everything in the laundry room as it comes out of the dryer…I sort my colors there and then take them to the closet.  I used to make sure everything was hanging the same way you know fronts facing right…but I decided to just let go a bit and not be so anal about it all.

How about you?  Are your shirts hung or folded?  (Far Guy has some folded everyday T Shirts…I do not.) Do you separate by sleeve length and color?   Do you take all the laundry away in your house?

Recently I gave Noah a lesson about how to properly fold a shirt…just like in the store.  I think he appreciated the lesson…he said he did.

  1. I fold my tops and tee shirts just like in the store. I like the look of that on the shelves and learned how to do it from the articles on the Internet. I have some on hangers but don't have that many hangers. Hanging is much easier and takes less time than folding shirts and tops. I am not fussy about colors or long and short sleeves. They all go on the same shelves in random order. Guess I could be more organized.

  2. LOL! Every time I put The Writer's shirts away I have to re-sort his closet. HAVE to. There is the basic summer/winter division and then sub categories, like polo shirts-Hawaiian shirts-dress shirts. They also have to be buttoned, facing right, and straight on the hanger. My own closet is similarly arranged but it never gets messed up because I put the clothes away right in the first place. 😝 I would really like it if all our hangers were the same color, but I don't want to be tooooo controlling.

  3. You and Far Guy are so funny. I do all the laundry in our house. Tee shirts are folded - mostly as in the store. Some are just fold - the work in the yard ones. Dress shirts are hung in the closet on hangers - all facing in the same direction. Hubbies shirts used to be hung by color but I gave that up cuz he didn't care. It makes me mad when hubby takes a shirt off the shelf and just crams it back all "willy nilly", then I have to go in and straighten out the shelves. Friend, you are not alone. Have a great weekend.

  4. I do my own laundry and my guy does his. He is the anal one, with everything all perfect. I hang most of my shirts willy nilly (as said by a friend), but they face the same way on the hangars. I have a drawer with t-shirts for everyday but hang the ones I wear in public so they don't get wrinkled. :-)

  5. I have categories. Winter, summer. Then I have by work, casual, at home then robes. Then by colour adding in the pants in each colour. Darkest to lightest. Then I hang them all with the hanger hook end facing the back of the closet.

  6. I do all the laundry in the house. Hubby doesn't wear knit shirts, except for sleeveless tees under his button up shirts when it is cold. When I hang his shirts I keep the long and short sleeve ones seperate and they all face the same way. Other than that anything goes. They are mostly plaid so I don't organize by color. Pretty much the same with my laundry except I hang my tees and sometimes organize by color.

  7. I do the laundry and put it up. I do both of our closets too. They're color coded, he says that it should be seasonal, but I want to look in and see all the colors in their proper place. I definitely have a bit of ODC as well as ADD.

  8. Your husband is funny with his comment about not sleeping well. Sounds like something mine might say. I do the same thing with my shirts - - except they are also in rainbow order in each sleeve length category - - red hues, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, white, brown, black.
You realize we are smart and could get paid for our organization?!! The books/experts suggest arranging your clothes the same way.

  10. I alternate between folding and hanging shirts. I do not hang my clothes with any sort of order to them. Guess I am not as OCD as I thought I was. LOL. The kids fold and put away their own clothes and I try not to look. But then there is my youngest son (age 40+)...he is neurotic about how his clothes are folded. It's a hoot!

  11. I definitely have some OCD tendencies myself. With this new closet at the new place I have a divided half and a regular half that can hold longer clothing--so I had to completely reorganize my system--LOL! Now the winter tops (long sleeve) are above on the divided side and separated by type (don't do color). The summer tops and shorter pants are on the bottom of the divided side--and grouped by type. Yes, I hang t-shirts. On the other side are the long pants, skirts, dresses, and loungers--organized by type. Everything faces the center of the closet and I rotate wearing the t-shirts (which I wear a lot since I don't go anywhere). Probably why I don't organize by color. Colors are hung up willy-nilly so that I wear a different color every day and it is kind of a surprise. :) Gosh--I rotate socks, underpants, and bras, too. LOL!

  12. Well I never thought about sorting by sleeve length. Guess that will drive me crazy now. :) I hang by color and all the clothes, fronts facing. All my black clothes are on black hangers and white clothes on white hangers. The different colors still drive me crazy. I'm a mess!

  13. I sort (right now in summer) by ratty t-shirts for gardening, then better tees for errand running, then go-to-meetin' tees, then 3/4 sleeve, then long sleeve.
I've always wanted to write a mystery in which the detective determines the appearance of the victim by the colors in her closet. (I haven't sorted out why or how he wouldn't know what she looked like. Gotta work on that.)

  14. I have such tiny closets here and they are so crowded! I do make sure openings are all facing left... I'm left handed... and t shirts are all folded and in the dresser. Other than that- minimal sorting- I sure hope the new house has bigger closets!

  15. I do the laundry and fold my DH's T-shirts neatly however they often don't get put away with what I consider enough precision. I will go and organize his SS and LS shirts from time to time but mostly try to ignore them. Mine, on the other hand, are arranged in a careful way. Hey, I even fold my unmentionables neatly. I don't have OCD, I have CDO ( which is in alphabetical order).

  16. The lake is pretty. I am anal about closets/panty etc. I have been nutso with things willy nilly until I had time to organize. I keep all the short sleeve shirts together and long sleeves together. In the pantry, everything has to face forward etc. John could care less. He has 40 yr old suits hanging with his t shirts! lol

  17. Yes all laundry gets put away in closets and drawers.
Tom and I both categorize our shirts, but we have our own categories.

  18. My T-shirts are rolled. Other shirts are hung. GN does her own thing. Your post made me giggle so much ai had to wait until I stopped laughing before I could comment. My husband had his own system for laundry. I just left him do what he needed to do.
