Change is happening all around us.
Far Guy was quite upset that his childhood home was being messed with. One day we drove by and there were huge piles of dirt in the yard. It was hard to tell what they were doing…moving the whole house? Or putting a new basement underneath it?
I drove by yesterday and took a photo…it is a new basement.
The Motel in Osage used to be called Whistling Pines. Henry Holland built it back in the 1930’s. There was a motel and a house on the property, it has always been painted yellow with brown trim. Recently they painted it with some bargain mix your own color paint.
It is apartments now…no longer a motel. It was for sale a long time ago and we almost bought it. The house which is back in the trees had Henry Holland’s signature knotty pine walls with beautiful custom trim.
I took this photo yesterday…that color is real different. I don’t care for it…it isn’t yellow.
Yesterday I had lunch with my long time friend Susan, we had lunch at 3rd Street Market and then shopped at the Thrift Store and Linda’s Recycled Goods. I am the last of the big spenders with a 25 cent purchase for a piece of glass that has a hairline crack but will make a glass flower…someday! We had a really nice visit!
I came home and joined Far Guy woodcarving the Christmas ornaments. We now have 56 completely done…we are nearing the home stretch. We figure it takes about three hours to make one ornament from start to finish…we may time the whole process for one ornament before we are done.
That is an "interesting" shade of green. Guess they wanted a change. Sounds like you are moving right along on the Christmas presents and they will be done in plenty of time for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteChange is hard I drive through my old village and sometimes it makes me sad. Wow 56 that is a good number. Hug B
ReplyDeletei won't even drive by my old house anymore because it has changed way too much. I prefer to remember it as it was when I was growing up. What is even worse is the changes are mostly bad changes which makes me very sad. Glad you are making such good progress with the ornaments.
ReplyDeleteChanges are often hard to take.
ReplyDeleteI don't even have a childhood home, having grown up as an Air Force brat, as they used to say. But things change as time goes plodding on. Or roaring by, as it seems to sometimes. :-)
ReplyDeleteEverything on my childhood farm has been torn down except the chicken coop. I can't stand to drive by the farm because it's like my history has been erased.
ReplyDeleteIs the new color a turquoise? It's interesting.
Yes some kind of turquoise:(
DeleteTom and I have seen lots of changes to the landscape, too. We play "remember when" sometimes as we drive in areas we have known for years. Change is one of the reasons I am glad we have lots of photographs.
ReplyDeleteChange is not easy but the basement is a good sign that they are taking care of the house properly. Pretty house. Good job on the ornaments. Evidently Fall is not here yet as it was 93 yesterday and 91 today. Dang it...I want Fall! LOL!
ReplyDeleteTwo quotes come to mind: "Change happens." and "You can't go home again."
ReplyDeleteChanges are big and constant here is the city and suburbia. At least I have no emotional attachment to most of it.
Thank you - I have been wondering what was going on there at that house. The motel is interesting and reminds me of one of the first homes we rented it was that beautiful color (aqua) on the inside and on the outside.... bluck!
ReplyDeleteWe have emotional attachments to our old homes. My childhood home is abandoned.
ReplyDeleteI would have taken turquoise over my mother's choice of what we jokingly called her glow-in-the-dark chartreuse. It was yellow before that. I preferred yellow, too. ;)
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of anyone getting a new basement. A lot of people could have used one, but I've never heard of it being done. Must mean they really love the house.
You really have been busy with the ornaments! Wow! Nice to have some cooler days--even if they are still damp as all get out. ;)
I'm not a fan of aqua for house, cars, or trucks.
ReplyDeleteSigh!
Linda
That is a unique color and not very pretty! I am fortunate that my parents and grandparents homes are pretty much like they used to be. It will be sad if they ever knock them down for "progress." Sounds like you and your friend had a nice afternoon. I keep a change purse in the car for thrifting and many times spend less than $1, but I still enjoy the hunt. Good for you on the ornaments. What projects will you work on when winter arrives?
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing that Far Guy's old home is not being demolished. Raising it on a basement might actually mean the present owners are keeping it in shape. One can only hope.
ReplyDeleteMany many years ago in Michigan, my mother and I had driven by one of the many houses we had lived in. It had been painted pink with orange curtains. This was a two story house, so that was a LOT of pink. I have no idea what they were thinking.
ReplyDeleteThere are places in town where hubby tried to show me where family had lived or worked, and the buildings do not exist any more.
It is good the old home is not being demolished. A basement is an okay improvement.
The color of the motel definitely clashes with its surroundings.
Congratulations on all the Christmas ornaments!
You are right: those glow in the dark colors just don't seem right for exterior paint.
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to get together with friends. Glad you got to connect--and shop!--with a long-time friend.
That paint color is just not the best! Hope you have a fantastic weekend!
