Remember when you were little and you spent too much time in the sun and the water?
Remember how your skin hurt when it was touched?
Well I wasn’t in the water, but I got too much sun. I had an umbrella too, I would have been fried without it.
I recall we used to put Noxema on our sunburn…it helped. I lotioned up with something else.
Can your eyeballs get sunburned? Just a thought.
Has anyone ever croaked from a sunburn? Not likely is it?
I watched the weather report, partly cloudy and 79 degrees was the forecast…it hovered near 90 where I was and was mostly sunny…could have fried an egg on the concrete or my face.
I remember going camping with a friend's family when I was 12. I got sunburned and I was miserable the whole trip. Hope you feel better very soon.
ReplyDeleteHi to Chance.
it has been hot and sunny, this week we buried a friend who passed at 55 from skin cancer
ReplyDeleteA lot of us were in the sun too much through the years, and without using sunblock which was not a thing in those days. Now we have to have spots frozen off here and there on our skin! Who knew?
ReplyDeleteShirley H.
Yep, grew up in the bad old days before sunblock. Remember Sea and Ski?
ReplyDeleteMy husband, the ex-redhead, acquired such a bad sunburn when we took the kids to the Jersey shore many years ago, that we almost couldn't eat dinner in a restaurant that night because he was shivering so badly. I think it was the waitress who suggested soaking cloths in tea and laying them on his skin. I guess the tannin in the tea did something. Oh, and take some aspirin.
I got my first sunburn when it was a doozy, it was so bad I peeled three times.
ReplyDeleteI grew up with soaking rags in cider vinegar...it always helps. Still do it today.
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better now.
Linda
Sunburn was a part of my growing up. I worked in the fields every summer. I had a farmer's tan.
ReplyDeleteOuch! I haven't had a sunburn in years as I pretty much have my head down in the dirt when I'm outside! LOL! The back of my neck probably has some. Be careful....heat stroke is more the concern although you can get very severe sunburn that could put you in the hospital or shock or both. I think it's hotter up North than it is here right now...very strange!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain and can relate. I've had major sunburns in my life - the heat I radiated could be felt by those around me, and blisters on top of it! I have scars on my shoulders from the blisters. Sunscreen was unheard of then. Yes, Noxema helped, but so does the spray Foille, and even vinegar.
ReplyDeleteOuch! Yes, it's been hot, sticky, and sunny. I haven't had a sunburn for many years, but they're awful! My parents attitudes were--you just suffered through it. So I never learned anything to do for a bad sunburn. I can remember laying cool, wet washcloths on my shoulders and soaking in the tub, but that's about it. I hope you don't get blistering.
ReplyDeleteI think my brain is sunburned from the heat :-o.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to read that you got sunburned. I hope you are able to find/do something that makes you comfortable.
ReplyDeleteIt has been very hot here. My work is determined by the placement of the shade.
ReplyDeleteI have had a lot of bad sunburns in my life. I finally stopped laying out! Now the sunburns consist of what I get on my arms from mowing. I loved the smell of Noxema!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know...you can get some serious burns from the sun--and I mean literal burns. I did that once when camping at a high altitude. Didn't know it was easier to burn that way. What did I know? I toughed it out, but my legs were actually swollen for days and it was literally painful to walk, just from the burn on my legs.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, too much sun would turn my eyebrows invisible :)
As a kid, I loved the summer heat and played outside no matter how hot it got. It seemed I was always sunburned. As a matter of fact, your eyeballs can be burned by the sun. That is what causes cataracts and why we are told to always wear sunglasses when we are outside. Don't know if you can "croak" from sunburn, but you can die from heat stroke. Now that I'm in my mid-60's, I HATE the sun and the hot weather. I live in SoCal and today it is 108 degrees here.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever had a sunburn but I get "prickly heat" rash easily so I'm driven in to the shade quickly on hot sunny days. I sure hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteAs we age we have to be much more careful with sun exposure, but having said that, I'm terrible and stay out in the sun without protection.
ReplyDeleteSunburn is known to be a dangerous cause of skin cancer so please wear a wide brimmed hat and cover up friend. I had some close calls with that. Be safe and have fun too.
ReplyDeletePoint Beach State Park in Wisconsin. I was 16 and it was early summer. First that really bad burn and then later the itching that almost drove me crazy. Live and learn.....
ReplyDeletePat some vinegar on the sunburn...it will cool it and possible keep it from peeling/itching...good luck
ReplyDeleteI don't handle pain well anymore, so sunburn is on the list of things I avoid as much as possible. I hope your's gets past the pain part quickly, and I hope it doesn't itch like crazy when it heals.
ReplyDeleteYears ago , going crimson and crispy at the edges in the summer was a Good Thing ... it signaled that you'd been on holiday . And I can remember groups of my friends smothering themselves in salad oil to get even browner !
ReplyDeleteLaying slices of cucumber on the sunburn is supposed to help ... I wonder if liquidising a cucumber and using some of the juice as a lotion might be soothing ? And sightly more convenient ...
