June Yard Report

The last week in June.

Already?  I so like the daylight in the evenings…. and now we lose some evening light every day.

I mowed the lawn…dressed like a monk so I didn’t sun burn my sunburn… it is better today.  But when people look at you and wince you know they are thinking “What a stupid broad.”

The dragonflies will give way to a more patriotic theme.  I have two free days this week…just for me to get caught up..or relax…or read the day away….or change the wreath next to the door and the flags.

My little garden out front,  I have since moved the red glass flower as the squirrels were using it for a jumping platform.  The small Marigolds are blooming.  One of the Salvia has a bloom but so far it is too small to see.  The squirrels took out two plants with their leaping.

I mow the yard about every five days, and I mow it quite short, between Far Guy and I we get all the trimming done before it is time to start over again.

I try to scrub the bird baths every week or so…no need having a mosquito hatchery in the yard.

I need to do some trimming while on the lawn mower, some branches are just in the way, no amount of ducking keeps them away from my head.

I also need to attack some more Poison Ivy…

See already the jobs are piling up for my free days.

  3. Somehow I missed hearing about your sunburn. I'm glad you're protecting your skin now. Those squirrels are a nuisance, aren't they? :-)

  4. Glad your sunburn is getting better... I also thought people who bundled up to do yard work and the men who do it professionally we're crazy because it would be so hot... but after moving to Florida & skin cancer... I no longer feel they are nuts I always wear long sleeves when I'm going to be in the Sun and doing anything... by the way I love reading your blog even though I don't post much...Donna AKA grammynmaggie

  6. Squirrels can quickly rearrange the yard, and how do they tear up so much! Poppy fusses about the squirrels. I told him yesterday that at least the squirrels don't kill our chickens and guineas. We lost two guineas last week...feathers everywhere! Either a skunk, raccoon, or possum, probably. Your two free days sound pretty full!

  9. You can buy little mosquito prevention pellets to put in your bird bath. They are safe for the birds but help prevent mosquitoes from breeding in your bird bath!!

  10. Sorry about the sunburn and I love your dragonflies. Those darned squirrels are kinda hazardous to many things huh? We are warming up here as well and like your neck of the woods, haying (first cut) is in full swing. So much to do so little summer.

  12. Love the dragonflies...especially after last summer when I hunted for them nearly every day on my walks. Cheery! Glad your sunburn is better. I vote for reading the day away on your two free days! ;-)

  14. I hear you! It's a lot of work and mine gets away from me every Spring. By Fall I'm caught up...usually! I have decided to take Saturday and Sunday off except for minor chores. I am retired after all but I've never worked so hard! LOL! I love those deep orange marigolds!

  15. Jobs seem to be piling up in our yard too, and now it is getting hot again - too hot to work in the sun. Might have to put on the mosquito spray and work n the evenings.

  16. We have been doing a lot of mowing around here too (Hubby on the big mower) -- me with my push mower do around my flower gardens and other small places. Trapeze squirrels - I have a couple around here too which I am not real happy about (cute for a short time then.....) first year with squirrels so I will learn :)

  17. I hate the thought of the days getting shorter bit by bit. We wait for summer and then it goes by so fast!!
Sounds like your "free days" are not going to be free for long. Always a list of things to do!!
