Disappearing Sunflowers

Someone or something took my entire double headed sunflower out of my flower bed.  Snapped that stalk right off…the buggers.  It was probably a Bambi.

Double headed sunflower

Then we saw two sunflowers on the way into town, they had sprouted up and bloomed in the cracks in the highway on the edge of the tar.   They were such pretty things and there were two of them standing tall and strong greeting motorists from far and wide. Their sunny little faces following the sun happily all day long.

On the way home from town they were g.o.n.e.  obviously someone wanted more than a photo of them…they wanted to take them home and put them in a vase of water and enjoy them…how does one enjoy stolen flowers?  I know there were no Bambis wandering around snapping off sunflowers stalks in broad daylight along a busy highway.

I just don’t get it…the buggers anyway.

  1. Pretty sunflowers, they are my favorite summer flowers. Sorry someone stole the flowers or maybe it was an animal. Have a happy day!

  2. Sunflowers are such pretty, cheerful flowers. Why can't people just leave them alone for others to enjoy as well? Why be selfish - learn to share. Let's hope it was an animal who stole the flowers; then I won't feel so bad.

  4. Oh what a bummer! I get mad when I see people picking wildflowers. They need to leave them for everyone to enjoy.

  6. I would not think that bambi would want them but I guess the sunflower seeds are really good as I like them. My neighbor goes to the institution north of town and picks flowers for her graves. I guess she has done it for so long that it becomes a normal behavior.

  10. Seems as though critters would have left some kind of evidence behind. But this reminds me that last week somebody pulled three large metal trellises out of our garden...and then put them back, but all out of position. Do you suppose they planned to steal them and changed their minds? Strange.

  11. It's why I never ever identify places where I've seen native orchids

  12. If it were people they should leave well enough alone considering it is in your garden . It could of been a Racoon I know they like sunflowers and the seed . Strange happenings , Maybe it was ghosts or aliens . Have a good evening !

  14. Darn. Pick when there is an abundance, not when there are just two.
I have some very scraggly sunflowers that have survived several wind storms. They are multiple bloomers, so the new ones keep coming as the old blooms go to seed. They are keeping the chickadees happy.

  15. Lovely shot - but what a crying shame about the flowers! I don't believe in picking them but letting them grow for everyone to enjoy...

  16. I've had a park bench stolen from my front yard, and a statue but I don't think anyone has ever picked any of my flowers. They are right up to the street and it would be easy to do. Now my new bench is chained down. Never did find another statue I liked though.

  17. Oh, they should have left the sunflower for everyone to enjoy. Some folks just don't care.

  18. Yeah the Bambis finally determined we are back home and have left the remaining flowers in my pots but they took out most of them the weekend in August when we were gone. And the tops of all the raspberry bushes. Outch! Great picture though and wanted to share here is a link to the crock pot bread baker (you can find them on ebay). http://www.amazon.com/Rival-Crock-Pot-Breadn-Cake-Bake/dp/B004LGJ2E4/ref=cm_cr_pr_pdt_img_top?ie=UTF8

  19. Here they probably thought nobody would miss stray sunflowers along the side of the road--but they don't know Connie! And I bet there are others who looked for them every time they drove by. I know I would notice the happy little sunflowers. ;)

  20. Buggers... Maybe it was someone heading to visit a sick or elderly relative and thought they might enjoy seeing them too.

  21. How dare they! I figure when they come up through the cracks it shows perseverance....a trait I highly admire...and they are for everyone to enjoy! At least you got a picture and were nice enough to share it with all of us! Thank you!
