Years ago J.W. Nunn had a store in Ponsford Minnesota.
Far Guy’s Mom wrote “I remember the large J.W. Nunn store and my mother bringing several cases of eggs to the store every week to buy groceries. Those were during my childhood years. Also riding to Sunday School by horse and wagon to the Baptist Church in Ponsford.”
I think the Nunn store was on the North side of the street on the East side of town and it opened in 1902.
Here is a very old photo that Jim Mack (J.W. Nunn’s grandson) shared with me. J. W. Nunn and an unknown child are in the photo.
Family Genealogy Info: Alfred and Elezebeth Nunn lived near William and Martha Abbott in Wellington County Eramosa Township Ontario Canada, they came together to the (Lake Eunice) Detroit Lakes area and then to Carsonville Township/Ponsford Minnesota around 1889.
I love your new header! You do have the most interesting old pictures and stories. I used to love hearing mama talk about going to church by horse and wagon.
ReplyDeleteI remember my maternal grandparents talking about going to church on Sundays by horse and buggy. They lived on farms near a very rural town. What we used to call a "one horse town". Love the old pictures.
ReplyDeleteHorse and buddy, that's a really ancient mode of travel, I hear. I love your pretty yellow header but I had to search for Chance! Glad to see he's there, or the world might come to an end. :-)
ReplyDeleteI do love your genealogy. I wish I had the fortitude to do that but then I wonder if anyone below us would really care.
ReplyDeleteDo you use a program or just research through all methods?
Hi Gail However I can find the info...books, the Internet and talking to older people:)

Oh I love genealogy and those old photos that make you dig deeper to find those photos and stories. Hug B
ReplyDeleteTransportation at that time limited how far they could travel for business. There were many excellent local stores.
ReplyDeleteThat store front looks like the several in my home town with the door inset and the windows jutting out. Now, they remodel them but I like the old ones the way they were. Great stories and picture.
ReplyDeleteGret old photo. I don't have anything terribly old from my hometown. Neither of my parents grew up in the town I did. They migrated from a different state., so my pix don't go back too far. Good that you can bo back a ways.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful photo! Somebody's got to know who that child is! Interesting that the family actually came from Ontario. Makes me wonder how people knew where to head to from such a distance.
