Busy Days and Appointments

Projects galore the past few days.  We got six dozen ears of corn to chop off the cob, cook and freeze. (Note to self: Self you are getting older do three dozen ears at once…not six) I have been working in my garage when the heat allows and there are many in the house projects when the heat becomes too much.

We took a drive over to Shell Lake one evening…this guy was hanging around fishing.  I have the wood blocks all ready to carve one of these guys.  One of those UP’s…unfinished projects.

Sunset Shell Lake Sept 01

The sunset was beautiful and it was even better sharing it with my two best guys!

Besides projects we have had appointments.  I hate appointments.  Chance was to the Vet on Tuesday…nothing serious he just needed a vaccine updated.  Far Guy went to the Doctor on Wednesday…Medicare was not happy with the way the Nurse did his oxygen evaluations…go figure.  Far Guy’s vehicle goes in for back brakes…the fronts were barely done when the back ones began to squeal.  I have a Doctors appointment on Friday because I need a refill on my blood pressure medication and my Doctor wouldn’t refill it until she sees me…picky picky…I saw her 16 months ago….this time she wants blood.  I guess that is what happens when you get old…you have appointments.

  1. I am like you, I hate all the appointments. Didn't seem to have this many when I was still working. So why now? Guess it's because I', older and I am home to take care of all the appointments. The car ones are the worst as they just seem to come one after the other. Do you suppose it's because the car is older also?

  2. I hear you, Far Side. Fortunately for me, I don't have all that many appointments right now, but there's a colonoscopy in my future. :-(

  3. Do you suppose doctors' appointments will become our social life of the future? I sincerely hope not.

  6. We hate appts. too. I can't sleep the night before for worrying about the drive!
    These are beautiful photos.
John took a tumble pumping gas in the car yesterday and is sore today. Still hot here in GA.
    Wishing you a good day.

  8. You are right.... I think the adventure in the life of seniors is to go to appointments, and I hate them like you do. I just had to make an "appointment" with my doctor for what might be a sinus infection. Ear ached, sore throat. Ugh!

  9. In the middle of winter you will appreciate reaching into the freezer and grabbing a bag of summer gold that you prepared. Enjoy

  10. And appointments are what take up so much time don't they. I'm always amazed at how they feel our time is so expendable, but theirs is so precious. My husband calls it being in the medical hamster wheel, round and round.

Yes 3 doz corn would be more then adequate. LOL.

  14. Those pictures are beautiful! I know what you mean about appointments. I used to brag about never having to go to the doctor. Now every time I turn around I have a new prescription to get filled. It's always something!

  15. That corn will taste so good this winter. I was raised on frozen corn as my mom would put up so many bags of it to feed the army of four boys. I didn't like corn from the can when I got older. That many dozen is a lot of work, wow. We finally got the dogs shots all caught up. We go in for two different days rather than take them both in at the same time. Our vet over works the check up and the shot spending a lot more time that necessary. Doctors are picky about randomly making scripts and not get a visit in once in a while. Take care.

  17. I say that every time I freeze corn (not so much next time!), but then when winter rolls around I'm so happy to have it. I will be in Minnesota soon and doing 6 months' worth of doctor/dentist appointments in 10 days. Not looking forward to that part.

  18. Yep, appointments...I need to make mine before the snow flies as it's a long drive..for me anyway. I love blue herons and that picture of it and the sunset is gorgeous. I can't eat much corn on the cob. I ate 3 ears last summer and had such a gut ache I thought :it was the big one! LOL! I can't wait to see your carving of a blue heron. Last night on Live Big Blue..the last night, they spotted a blue whale and I was practically hooping and hollering as it is my favorite! First one I've seen. The largest animal to ever grace the planet! Amazing! Right in Monterey Bay which was practically destroyed environmentally and ecologically but because of caring and hard working people they brought it back from the brink. It's taken years but what wildlife lives there now is incredible. Most of them travel 1,000's of miles to get there for a food fest this time of year. There was one bird that travels 39,000 miles from Australia to feed and then travels 39,000 miles back. You have incredible unspoiled habitats there.....lucky you! Thanks for sharing.

  19. Yes, it takes much more energy to do stuff now. I think I'm finished freezing stuff. I've done beans this summer and each time I say, "this is not worth it.."

  20. I think I understand how you felt about SIX dozen ears of corn to process! When we came home with several big boxes of peaches last month I had a talk with myself too. I only hope I remember it next August when I see good deals on peaches! I do find it hard to resist a good deal.

  22. Hey! That looks like the guy who was hanging around, outside our hotel window last week in Florida. How'd he make the trip to Minnesota so quickly?!?!

Beautiful photo capture of that sunset! The colors are awesome. Looks like you would have missed the sun entirely, if you were only a few minutes later...
