Wall of flowers in town.
I took this photo in July. It was at its best then. It is a planting of many different kinds of Petunias, Alyssum, Sweet Potato Vine, Melampodium Derby (the bits of yellow) or one of it’s cousins, Salvia Victoria Blue and one of those fancy grasses. I am not so fond of the Sweet Potato Vine (the green plant)…aphids like it…a lot.
I told you that someday I would photograph the back of the wall of flowers in town.
Here is the back side it looks almost as good as the front side. The garbage can must hold water that is mixed with fertilizer when they want to fertilize via the drip irrigation system. Petunias are heavy feeders…they need lots of fertilizer to produce flowers.
They seem to have planted the flowers in some kind of a iron cage or net…I didn’t go and investigate further.
It all makes for a very pretty wall of flowers. It was really chilly last night 40 F or 4 C eh…it is only a matter of days before we get a freeze to wipe out all the flowers.
A pretty display and no doubt enjoyed by many - tourists and locals. It's been chilly here at night, too, so a freeze so coming soon. I've basically stopped watering my flowers. They didn't do too well this year anyway.
ReplyDeleteWe are in the low fifties at night, nowhere near a freeze. I didn't know that about petunias, but that explains why I don't seem to be very successful at growing them. I didn't fertilize them enough. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely display! Thanks for sharing, it really brightened my day.
ReplyDeleteYep it isn't as cold as the Minnesota folks but we were cold. I see Grand Portage was very cold. I can see us getting an early frost and then have it warm up again. Fall comes sooner north of us but it is still coming too fast for me. I like the walls of flowers but I think it would be hard to plant on the vertical.
ReplyDeletePretty, front and back.
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty. All towns could do something similar.
ReplyDeleteWe are chilling down also. 41* I feel sorry for the little hummers traveling through, they look very fluffy and a tad chilled in the morning as they drink from the flowers and feeders. As the day warms I see no hummers, then as evening comes on we have around six or less...stopping for a rest.

I'd love to be able to create that wall of flowers. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteYou make my day when you post photos of vibrant flowers from July.
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful! I'm going to miss the flowers when they are done for the year.
ReplyDeleteBrr! You were a tad chillier than we were last night. The back side of the wall is pretty, too.
ReplyDeleteThe wall of flowers is just beautiful! Thanks for sharing that picture with us! I love all the colors. I always look
ReplyDeleteforward to your blog. Yes...its getting cold here in Wisconsin at night too....we have tossed a couple of our big flowering pots already...but the rest are still hanging in there! We'll see how long they last! I think it's going to warm up next week!
The opposite side is pretty! I am looking forward to fall but it's sad to think about that first freeze killing all the flowers. We are supposed to have temperatures in the 50's at night all next week.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know that about petunias. No wonder mine never seem to keep going. I'll have to remember that for next season.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe you are already talking frost. We just had a run of 100+ degree days. But we can tell things are changing, even here. We are hoping for the rains to return. Things are getting pretty seriously thirsty around here :(
Such pretty flowers! We woke up to 3C the other morning, but it is still getting very warm during the days.
ReplyDeleteThey really are pretty--front side and back side. We've already had a few nights in the 40s. I hope that's not a sign of winter coming early because I do love the fall so. :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I learn things from you all the time....thank goodness I can still learn. Now, if I can only remember it! LOL!
