Yesterday we were privileged to attend a First Lego League Competition in Grand Forks, ND. Our oldest Grandson Noah was in the competition. His Dad is the advisor. Their team “The Knights” has eight members. The theme for the competition was Body Forward.
Youth from Grades 4 to 8, build their own robot from a kit. The robot is programmed to do specific tasks, the kids must do all of the work themselves. Teamwork and problem solving is the key.
This is a competition table, Noah is preparing the robot to compete.
The energy in the competition room is palpable. It was very exciting for us to see kids so enthusiastic. The Knights is a coed team, with girls and boys. ( Noah are you a a whole head taller than your classmates?) Noah is in the sixth grade.
They did great! They visited the competition tables three times, they also presented a skit ( where Noah played the part of a man eating shark that bites the leg of a Barbie off..since the challenge was Body Forward..somehow Barbie’s leg was replaced or repaired with a robot) however we didn’t stay for that part, they also had a judges interview where they talked about their design and the teamwork involved to complete their design.
It was a fun day, win or lose all these kids are winners! :)
That is awesome! I've never heard of a competition! What an awesome idea!
ReplyDeleteA great thing for the kids to do and create ! Awesome photos and post ! Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteYeah Noah! What a fun and rewarding day for all. Nice to see the smiles, on the youth and the parents.
ReplyDeleteI can just see you, Connie, snapping pictures and I'm SURE you weren't silent as the competition went on. It's really fun to see the great day they had!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun and interestin' competition for the kiddos. That Noah of yours is one handsome dude!!! :o)
ReplyDeleteGod bless and have a 'super' day!!!
Lego is great stuff. I've kept a big bin full in case I am blessed with grandchildren one day:)
ReplyDeleteLego is a fascinating ty and is used effectively to challenge kid's imaginations. Congratulations to your grandson and his effort. Sounded pretty neat to me.
ReplyDeleteLEGO is brilliant - no matter what your age.
ReplyDeleteSound like a lot of fun. Your grandson must be very creative and imaginative to be able to participate in a competition like that. I know you gotta be awfully proud of him.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger and my boys younger I was in an advising coach position for this contest. I can't remember what the official name was but it was great to get together with all these bright kids developing and solving problems. You are right the energy was so high as the brains were working hard.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a fun contest to attend!
ReplyDeleteThat is where I was born. I think I still have some relatives in Grand Forks. Will ask my mom. The lego competition is something wonderful and I bet events are few and far between in other areas.
