Books and a friend

Friday afternoon I met with long time friend Susie for lunch.  We try to get together twice a year for our birthdays and Christmas.    We had a great visit and then we played the slot machines.  I won a little and Susie won a lot!!  It was a fun afternoon!

I gained four books.  My total is now back up to 69 books waiting in the wings:(

I sent three books with Susie...The Midnight Library which I wrote about a few days ago. AND

Fighting Back by Deena Burnett a recommendation from Betty.   It was a faith filled book.  It was also sad in some parts...I gave it a 9 out of 10 stars.  I finished reading this book back in September.

Foxfire Bride by Maggie Osborne.  Historical Romance at its finest that takes place out West during the Civil War.  I give it a 9.5 out of 10.

Susie belongs to a book club that meets in person vs my virtual book club. We need to get together more so we can talk about books!

Minnesota Weather...a cold front came through and it rained.  High 70F or 21C   Low 56F or 13C.  We will have a couple of days of highs in the 50's and then the 40's.  November is close to being upon us.

  1. That does sound like a fun afternoon. I miss my old book club friends. Most have moved away, and the 3 of us left in town do occasionally trade books between us.

  2. How wonderful to get together with a long time friend. Sharing a love of books is a bonus too.

  3. I love that you had your get-together with Susie. Events like that seem to renew our energy and are like mini-vacations for a few hours in the midst of the day. I tried to borrow Deena Burnett's book from Libby (through our public library) but they did not have that in their collection - - - - so I ordered it from AbeBooks.com for $6.76 and no shipping. That is such great place to used books. I am sending your recommendations to my sister-in-law in NY. THANKS!

  4. I had lunch this week with high school friends. The conversation turned to book reviews and I had several requests to send the titles and authors of my recent reads. 69 waiting. Hmm, I am not sure I want to count mine.

  5. I have read 3 of the first stack. I liked them. I guess Deena’s book meant so much to me because she was from my state and i met her, but part of it sort of dragged along. I am glad to know her story.

This gal is my kind of friend, one who lives good books.

  6. Nothing like discussing books. You learn so much more.

  7. That is a fun afternoon and I liked the gift bookmark you received (from your earlier post). I have Lady Tan's Circle of Women on reserve as an ebook. I read The Midnight Library last year and I'd give it a 9 out of 10 also.

  8. Sorry, I managed to just send you a comment as "anonymous" and didn't sign my name. It was about Lady Tan and the Midnight Library. My apologies! Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

  9. Longtime friends are the best. As for TBR books, look at it this way ~ you will never be bored lol!

I am close to being done reading "The Butterfly Tree" by Woody Woodburn. It is a tale that crosses seven generations, starting in 1852. You might enjoy it. Incase you want an even number of TBR books ;)
