Cousin Kathy

My Cousin Kathy died on October 11th.  We attended the visitation at the funeral home, the funeral was the next day the same day as Paige's wedding.

Kathy was one of my favorite cousins, she printed family scrapbooks and cookbooks. She was very interested in family history and stories and was always up for any cousin adventure!  Before Kathy had her stroke she and cousin Geraldine would get together and could visit a day away seeing as many relatives as they could in a day.

Aunt Eleanor with Mary Jane, Leonard with Mike, Uncle Oscar with Kathy and Ronnie.

This is a photo that my Mom took in 1953.  Everyone in the photo is gone now except for the two youngest...Mary Jane and Mike.
Leonard died October 23, 1958 in a hunting accident age 15
Ronnie died May 16,  2022 age 75
Kathy died  October 11, 2024  age 75

Kathy's Dad Oscar and my Dad were brothers.

I will miss my cousin Kathy, her smile, laugh and her hugs.  She gave the best hugs.
Far Side

Here is the newspaper article about my cousin Leonard's death.

  1. My condolences on the loss of your cousin Kathy. We are now THAT generation - the ones who gradually pass one by one. After reading the article about the younger cousin I have to imagine how horribly that impacted the other boys in the group too. So sad.

  3. I am sorry for the loss of your cousin. Cousins are like friends forever, because of memories made growing up. I have what I would call my favorite cousin and we live only 8 miles from each other. We don't see each other often, but we message all the time. Sad for the boys who were killed.

  4. I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin Kathy and I'm glad you were able to go to the visitation. What a tragic thing to happen to Leonard. I'm sure whoever fired that shot has lived with the guilt their entire life, whoever it may have been.
I did enjoy the photo though. Theirs looked like a very happy family.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

The tragic death of Leonard would have been a horrible shock to the family. While an accident, I'm sure it impacted their lives and the other boy's lives as well.

  9. Sorry to hear about Kathy. Leonard's death sounds pretty suspicious, a little more was going on than "a stray bullet".

  10. The saddest one for me is Leonard at age 15. But it is always sad to lose family or friends no matter what. She sounds like she was a cousin but also a great friend.

Leonard's fate is the fear of anyone who has hunters in the family. So tragic.

  15. Leonard's death would have been an awful shock to the family far too young to die.

  16. What a great sadness to bear! One so young. But equally painful to lose the other cousins!

  17. I'm sorry for your loss of cousin Kathy. Too bad the funeral and wedding were on the same day but at least you could go to the visitation. The story of how your cousin Leonard was shot is a sad one and must have been awful for the family.
