My Mother made a quilt for Jen a few years ago. It now has a perfect spot at Gather in Laporte.
It hangs on the railing upstairs.
My Mother is adjusting to life in the assisted living apartment by herself. It is hard, she and Dad have been together more than 72 years. Dad was asleep yesterday when I visited. Mom shared that the Nurses at the Home said he wandered the halls all night long. Mom usually eats the noon meal with him and sometimes supper. At his table is an elderly lady who has no filter and her language is quite colorful...it doesn't seem to phase my Dad.
One day at a time.
We have candy ready for our usual Trick or Treaters...hopefully I will get some photos!
Far Side
What a treasure Jen has!
ReplyDeleteEven if just a few children come trick or treating, I am ready for a horde. When I was a girl, we were a horde (in the fifties) and a force to be reckoned with later on in the sixties.
ReplyDeleteI am not a big fan of Halloween, but I do love to relive my memories as a girl when they come to my door.
I don't expect any spooks at my place, but I've got Kind bars I can share if any show up. Happy Halloween, dear friend! :-)
ReplyDeleteI often hear of ladies who were proper and correct after getting Alzheimer’s curse and talk so coarsely. I wonder why. My cousin said they were afraid to go out in public with my Aunt because of her being so crude. I guess they used up their “niceties”.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt. Sending lots of good thoughts to your parents.
ReplyDeleteThe transitions we sometimes have to make in life are harder than any others we have done. Prayers for both your parents and their children who love them. Very thankful there is a facility that oversees their physical needs and safety.
ReplyDeleteThinking of your Mom, Dad, and your family today.
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is absolutely gorgeous. Like mother, like daughter and I suspect granddaughter too.
ReplyDeleteIt's tough watching our parents decline - though I'm sure it is even harder on your mom. My grandpa used to swear quite a bit, but it got worse after his first stroke. Not sure why.
Enjoy those the trick or treaters!
A perfect spot to display a really beautiful quilt. Spending a lot of time in nursing homes with my dad years ago made me hope that I go quickly when the time comes. It's really hard for families. Your mom is blessed to have her children close by for support as she adjusts to your dad's condition. My thoughts are with you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt and how lovely that it can be displayed like this so that many can enjoy it :)
ReplyDeleteSo hard for your mom to be there with your dad’s decline. My heart goes out to her. I’m glad she has help with him. It would be even worse if she were trying to do the care-giving. That’s a beautiful quilt. I love the blue colors. Hope you enjoy your trick or treaters tonight!
ReplyDeleteChanges can be hard❤️
ReplyDeleteOh my... that quilt is beautiful and what a perfect place to display it! It must be so hard to be separated from your life partner. My husband is 71 and I will be 70 in March and I although we have talked about our later years I cannot imagine not being together. I'm glad your mom is adjusting. Hope you have a good week.
ReplyDeleteLove that beautiful quilt that your mom made for Jen. it looks so lovely hanging there and will be appreciated by so many. I'm sorry that your mom and dad are now separated but glad that she can join him for some meals. Things sure get tough when you get up there in age. A lot of communities had trick or treating last Saturday....I'm glad to know that some still go out on actual Halloween!
ReplyDeletePrayers for your mother and your family. This is such a difficult time.
ReplyDeleteI hope you got some trick or treaters, and some pictures!
ReplyDeleteMy dad's mother who never swore her entire life started swearing like a sailor as her mid went in her 90s--LOL! I' gad it doesn't bother your dad.
ReplyDeleteBig change for your mom. Huge!
Beautiful quilt.
My MIL used to wheel herself around at night and go into rooms and play with the light switch. That caused quite a stir.
ReplyDeleteI loved eating with her at the table because of the strange and wonderful tails those who ate with her talked about. Some of the folks had dementia and were living in different time zones and eras. Yet it was interesting to listen to them.
The quilt is gorgeous and what a perfect spot! It must be hard on your Mom, for sure. For all of you but especially her.
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous quilt and Jen has found the perfect spot to display it.
ReplyDeleteI feel for your Mom. I can just imagine how hard it all is for her. I have also noticed after working with the elderly for many years, that often with alzheimers and dementia, the personality will do a complete change around. The lady at your Dad's table could, quite possibly, been a shy quiet type of personality!
May God bless you all and comfort your hearts with this change in your parents and your, lives.
Blessings and love,
Betsy
