Start of another week

We have a few things on the list this week.   Snow.  Putting the bed upstairs together, searching for a couple of "lost items"...you know the kind you put  "away" so well you cannot locate them.  Taking naps are high on the list this snowy week.

I made the menus for the next two weeks...when we lived with the kids they do suppers day by day...Jen is a moody eater she never knows what she wants to eat days ahead of time.  Heck I could do menus for a month...but two weeks at a time works well for us...of course it is not written in stone we can change ideas if we want to.

Those worthless steri strips lasted about 48 hours on my hand...So I put some more on.

My parents are moving into Assisted Living this week if all goes well and my Dad is released from the Nursing Home.

Far Guy's sister is confined to bed now, she says her legs weigh a ton and she cannot move them anymore.   Far Guy calls her every evening. So sad to see her go downhill little by little.

  1. Ouch on the steri strips, but you have that handled. We have storms coming in for this week with lots of damaging winds, hail, and all that good stuff.
I think the Assisted Living is a good move for your folks, I think it would be easier for your mom not to have to try and do everything on her own.
Your dad should be more comfortable with her there.

  2. I always make menus - two weeks at a time. Really helps with the grocery shopping. And yes, they are subject to change. More rain predicted for this week; feels like I should start building an ark. Happy to hear your dad is being released from the Nursing Home and glad they will be in Assisted Living. Praying for your parents and Far Guy's sister.

  6. I was on a roll with menus a while back but have gotten out of the habit. I need to start again. I well know what you mean about lost items. I always seem to have something that I'm searching for since we moved here.
Are your parents happy or at least accepting of the move? Personally, I would move into an over 55 apartment right now if we had the chance. Most have so much going on and I'm a social person. I'd love to have a pool at my disposal, etc. I realize not all assisted livings have those options but it would be nice if they were looking forward to the move with less work for them.
Praying for all of you and the various "stuff". Especially Far Guy's sister.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. I started doing menus for a week, and I find it very helpful. We waste a lot less if I plan it around what's going to go bad first! Lol. And we do eat less junk that way, because nothing is last minute.

  11. We are also expecting snow, but I think you will get more. Does FG's sister know what's wrong? It sounds very sad. Moving into assisted living will take pressure off everyone, including your parents. I usually have about 3 days at a time planned, I generally need to take food out of the freezer and then I have leftovers to use. I have never gone 2 weeks out, that is fantastic planning!

  13. I put a lot of things away so well, that I may never find them. Hope your parents adjust well and enjoy the benefits that Assisted Living offers. So nice they are moving together! Sorry your sister-in-law has lost her mobility. Slow is a very difficult (putting it mildly) way to pass on, especially for those who love her most.

  17. I am a 2 week planner for menus as that is all I can deal with unloading and putting away...lol! I'm glad your parents will be together in assisted living....safer for them and less worry for the family. I know it must be hard to leave their home but I can just imagine how hard it is to take care of at their age. I can't take care of mine and I'm 20 years younger.
I've been praying for Far Guys sister and your parents. It's a great life if you don't weaken! Take care.

  18. You and Gene have had a lot of issues to deal with these past few months. I think of you often. Just this morning I reread some notes you sent me. I am glad Jeanne introduced me to your blog. Jeanne and I walked at one of our favorite wild flower spots this afternoon. Flowers are slow to appear this spring. Our weather has been up and down temperature wise.

  19. I tried meal planning. I never end up sticking to it, so I gave up. It's not that I'm a moody eater... I'll eat what was planned if it gets made. It's that I dont know from one day to the next what energy level I'll have, and too often end up changing my plan because I can't deal with what needs doing to prepare or cook the meal I'd planned to have. So now I just see what energy I have, see what's in the kitchen I can make dinner with, and figure it out from that. Apart from a Tuesday, when I have to plan ahead, and do whatever I need to regardless of how I feel, because my Dad comes over for dinner and he decides the week before what we're doing for him.
