Out with the old in with the new

Finally after 5 months and 11 days we have a new fridge.  Not the fridge I ordered which was an Amana...instead it is a Whirlpool because the Amana might be available in June...but the couldn't promise anything.  When Bert called me he said "Don't hang up on me I have good news and bad news."  The bad news was that the Amana may or may not come in June...the good news that a Whirlpool was now available for delivery.  So they delivered it last Friday.

Switching out a fridge is hard work for old folks.  Far Guy said "Never again"  It makes ice cubes quite loudly.  He has been worried that the 22 year old fridge would die any day.

So our brains have to relearn where stuff is.

old

new

We now have several appliances that match....the old stove is black....but the microwave and the toaster are stainless.   So we are almost matchy matchy.

Yesterday morning we sat outside watching the birds...it was 63 degrees and sunny...then it got cloudy and the temperature fell into the 40's.  The S word has been spoken again.

  1. I just have a hard time accepting the backlog in everything and the constant shortages. I had to wait 2 1/2 months to get some filters for my humidifier. I do love your new fridge - I think stainless looks so nice in a kitchen. Good luck getting used to all the quirks of a new appliance.

  2. Us too. S has been mentioned for today and I'm driving to the other end of town to get my oil changed. Bleh. We had a cookout yesterday at my sisters. All of us fully vaccinated people were there. Six adults and non-vaccinated Piper. It was in the 60's. Crazy weather.
All of our appliances at this house are stainless except for the sometimes working microwave that will be replaced when Dennis arrives.
I'm glad you finally got your refrigerator.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  3. That was a super long wait to not get the fridge you ordered. The Whirlpool looks great tho! Hope it lasts for many many moons.

  4. Did the delivery people put it in place and take the old one? You are not the only person I read about having to wait such a long time for a fridge. Laughing...I am matchy! I have a black stove and fridge!
    NOOOO, no more snow please?

  7. When we remodeled our kitchen, I bought all new appliances. We had been nursing thing along to replace them all at once. This was in the days when you waited a week at the most for an appliance. I spent a lot of time looking at appliances and got my black GE dishwasher from one place, a different brand black fridge with all the bells and whistles and I wanted and a black stove from another vendor. My daughter told me that, not only should all your appliances be the same color, you are supposed to get them all from the same manufacturer too. It's just too much for me. The sad part is that even though these are my "new appliances", we had to replace the dishwasher at year 10 and I am not a big fan of the stove. . . . They sure don't make appliances like they used to.

  8. If it's any consolation, Whirlpool makes Amana appliances. :) Did you get the "no finger print" stainless, Connie? When I was shopping for a new stove & 'frig, all the refrigerators came in the no-finger-print stainless but the stoves did not.... and the no-finger-print stainless is darker. So I went with all white and forgot it. We had to wait too and if it's any consolation even my Whirlpool-employee daughter couldn't get me my appliances any sooner. Something about the pandemic made people go crazy with appliance buying. Whirlpool had a record year last year! Enjoy your new 'frig. I have a hunch the sound of the ice maker is being magnified by the enclosed space the refrigerator is in. I'm wondering if the motor can "breathe" enough in there? Pictures can be deceiving so maybe it isn't as "enclosed" as the picture depicts. ~Andrea xoxo

  9. I had to get a new gas stove this year...I hated it...6 months later...I still don't like it, but I'm getting use to it. Sigh

  10. I'm glad your new one arrived, and that the old one didn't die first. We had to even have a carpenter come and raise the cabinet above our new fridge. Even though the appliance folks had measured before we ordered, no one realized our floor wasn't perfectly level. I had a momentary panic, let me say! I've liked my Whirlpool appliances.

  11. The stainless steel looks really nice.
Shortages with all kinds of products. Besides covid there was the ship stuck in the canal.

  12. Finally! That was quite the wait. I'm sure Far Guy will get accustomed to the noise soon enough.

Oh I hope they are wrong about the s word!

  13. We bought the one that was in the newer house and it is nice. My son bought one with bons money and he showed the picture of it and it is just like outs. So ours must not be so old. Shiny is nice. Ice id good to have.

  14. We had lots of S yesterday and I think it's moving in your direction. Now I wish some one around here would listen to advice about a new fridge instead of waiting until it's a goner.

  15. That's a beautiful fridge! I'm glad you finally got a new one. We have a stainless Whirlpool side by side and love it except we've had some trouble with the ice maker. When I was doing research for a quality fridge it seemed like quite a few of them had ice maker problems. I love having an ice maker but the most important thing is that the fridge works well in keeping your food and our Whirlpool does. You get used to the sound of the ice maker after a while.

I hope your weather doesn't get too bad. We are supposed to get two or three inches of snow tonight. I'm afraid we will go from winter straight into summer and miss out on spring.

  16. I chuckled when you said "We have several appliances that match" because we are the same. The stove, microwave and dishwasher are all black, but the refrigerator is white. When my son's refrigerator died and needed replacing they replaced all their appliances so that they would match. Not me... the fridge still works so it will stay until it no longer works and then I'll think about getting a black on to match! Have a great week.

  17. I like the stainless steel! It looks good in the kitchen. White is so...1980's (As if I'm a designer or something...) I don' think you will have too much trouble figuring out a new fridge. It's no like it is a new car or anything... As for the snow... i is snowing here in Iowa today. Grumble Grumble... a 30 degree drop from yesterday with a bitter wind. Cheryl says it will pass after tomorrow maybe. Fingers crossed.

  19. Yes we have the same brand of fridge and the ice maker is noisy. It took a while to get use to it. Once the basket is full then it isn't so loud but sometime it sounds like you have some one breaking into your house in the kitchen.

  20. I'm glad you finally got a fridge...not the one you wanted but nevertheless, it's a fridge and it seems one has to take what there is available. It does look very nice.

  21. Glad your old fridge limped along until you got the fancy new one! Hope it will work great for you! Yep....it cooled down here too and snow flurries have been flying all day, but not staying on the ground.

  22. Snow again is not nice, but your new fridge is. That was a long wait!

  23. Well, that must have been some sort of record for time waiting for delivery! Glad you finally have the new one. It looks quite impressive.

  24. It looks real nice in that space! I’m sure you’ll get used to it.

  25. Glad you finally got a new fridge, and the old one kept working until you could get a new one to actually show up.

  26. What a beautiful frig! I used to live 20 minutes from the Amana colonies where those appliances were made but Whirlpool bought them out. I hate to tell you but I bought a Whirlpool HE washer and drier....the front loaders and I hate them. The plastic on the control pales is coming off, they get moldy inside so you have to use a special cleaner on them and they shake so much I can't hang anything on the wall or it falls off. I had some great Maytags that I loved up North. No matter what; it's all junk nowadays. Yours looks very nice and I hope it stays that way for you and is everything you hoped it would be. My refrigerator, stove and oven are all over 40 years old and still working! The stove top an doven are Jenn-Aire and the frig is a Frigedaire. They say the less gadgets you get on appliances the less often you'll need a repair person. Enjoy!
