Very Late Lilac

I walked around the Gardens in Menahga on Tuesday while Far Guy was getting his teeth cleaned and a dental checkup.  They are Fall Gardens now, only one Daylily blooming but the Profusion Zinnia Series makes for a colorful border.

As I walked the outer circle looking at various plants...I was suddenly transported back to Spring or at least early Summer.

The sweet smell of Lilacs filled the air.  I think this may be a Miss Kim Lilac...who really knows for sure, I wondered why it was so late blooming. ...but I enjoyed it anyway.

After my stroll in the rain I drove over to the Lake.

Spirit Lake ...it was a gloomy rainy morning.

Then it was time to get my teeth cleaned and an exam. " No cavities but remember you can have that wisdom tooth that is sensitive to cold removed anytime."

Far Guy didn't have any cavities either...but has part of an old wisdom tooth that was not removed sometime long ago....it needs to come out sometime.

Two Dental Appointments accomplished and a loaf of flatbread was purchased from the Bakery.
( probably the best little bakery in our area.)

  1. Last year our old-fashioned lilac had one bloom in the fall. We moved it this spring. I expect it will be a couple years before it blooms again.

  2. Ouch. I had all four of my wisdom teeth taken out at the same time when I was in my early twenties and it was NOT a good idea. I had to go to an Eagles concert with my chipmunk face and two black eyes tied up in a scarf. Good times....lol.

  3. We recently had dental check-ups, too. Like you, I visit a shop etc. while John is in the dental chair. It just helps to get out and about. I'm glad you picked up some bread from the bakery. You both deserve a treat. Lilacs remind me of mother. Beautiful photo you shared. God bless you both.

  4. You reminded me that my own six-month checkup must be sometime soon. Sigh. I don't usually have any problems but I sure don't like to have my teeth cleaned. Congrats on getting two good results (mostly). :-)

  5. i am always so glad when my dentist appointments are over with. Not one of my favorite places to go. I have 2 chipped molars that are going to need crowns very soon. Ughhhh

  6. Dennis and I just had our dental appts. too. It must be that season. I have lots of crowns because of no dental care as a child. These days my vists usually go much better.
We had a family thing at Spirit Lake once with Dennis' family. Lots of them in in Minnesota around Coon Rapids, so it was a great middle ground to meet in between there and Omaha. It's a beautiful lake.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. I bought a variety of lilac that is supposed to bloom up to four times a year. They seem to be slow growing, but maybe just don't like where I planted them. No blooms yet.

  11. I love lilacs, but have a great love for zinnias. I would love to have a long row of them down a portion of our driveway in the summer. Some grumpy guy said no. Alas.
I haven't had a cavity since I was 18. My dentist loves to remind me of that each time I see her.

  12. Wow, that lilac was a little behind, but how nice to find it now.

I have a couple of teeth I want my dentist to pull but she won't. I guess she knows best.

  13. Love lilacs! You have to try the Nevis Bakery some time. They are pretty good also.

  14. My lilac planted two years ago has signs of a second bloom coming up for fall, in addition to its spring bloom. I am excited to watch it. I think some newer lilacs bloom twice a year, maybe you saw the second blooming.

  15. That late Lilac is pretty and special because it's so out-of-season. Very few scents can rival that of a Lilac.

  16. Good that you can find something interesting to do while you have to wait.

  18. Congrats on your good dental exams! Oh, I would love to smell some lilacs right about now. Amazing. Just took some bread pudding out of the oven....smells great...my dear old mom's recipe. Fun to make old recipes and think of her! Sweet dreams to you two tonight!

  20. A lilac blooming this time of year... I've never heard of such a thing. But I'd love to have that variety in my yard, for sure. I absolutely adore the scent of lilacs. Love, Andrea xoxo

  21. I’ve never heard of a lilac blooming in the fall. I think I would plant one of that variety just to get to smell lilacs twice a year.

  22. I have been seeing my dentist too often. I had a flair up and then it cleared up from the last filling. They hate wisdom teeth but really they just want to make the money from you to get them taken out.
