On hold

Far Guy is On Hold for his Lung Transplant.  He has two types of fungus growing in his lungs.  He will be on medication for 8 weeks and then they may or may not take him off hold...it all depends how well the fungus responds to medication.  (The fungus revealed itself after 40 some days in culture from sputum samples taken on August 5 2019)

The Transplant Team discussed Far Guy again.   His Transplant Coordinator and his Pulmonary Transplant Dr thought he would be a good candidate for two lungs now...that would get rid of the fungus completely. Dr SH the Thoracic Surgeon said "No way that would make me too nervous." So they decided to put him on hold...which is better than being taken off the list.

More sputum tests were accomplished Thursday and Friday and blood tests are scheduled on Monday...and we get a new Doctor added to the mix...and Infectious Disease Specialist.

To say we are discouraged is an understatement.

It is our hope that once they get the fungus under control his breathing will improve.

One day at a time.

Far Guy got his Shingrix shot last Wednesday....shots are in short supply...the VA Clinic happened to have one.

Previously we both had Zostavax shot...but now they say you need the new one because it is more effective.

  4. The setbacks and waiting must be awful. I will pray that fungus goes away....remember that song "there's fungus among us"? Little did we know! Like Cynthia said....just enjoy the moment and try not to look too far down the road. Rest, take it easy and get over your colds...that can't be helping. I'm fighting something off; very tired, sneezing and headache. I even took a nap yesterday! I know! I never take naps! LOL!

  7. I had to look up details on that kind of infection. Interesting reading about it, but not a good thing to have. It must be a horrible disappointment and I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for a very good outcome.

  9. Another setback, disappointment, and cause for worry, not a good thing. You do have lots of people pulling for you if knowing that helps.

  10. Darn it. Although, finding the infection is a good thing...now for the meds to work and to work quickly!!!

  11. The transplant process is a delicate dance - one step forward, two back and then reverse. Don't get discouraged.

  12. More waiting. But maybe getting that fungus under control will help his breathing. Praying for FG.

  13. What a let down. So sorry. I hope the specialist can get rid of this fungus. Or maybe he'll end up on the double lung list after all. Something positive. More waiting is better than being off the list, of course. We'll all be praying FarGuy gets rid of this and can breathe better--soon! Love and hugs!!

  18. How disappointing! I am sorry to hear about this but if there is a problem that can be fixed it is good to get it taken care of before a transplant. As others have said, it is one day at a time. You both remain in my prayers as always. Keep thinking positive - that alone will help you both.

  23. One foot in front of the other, one day at a time, one more thing to take care of. Hang in there. No one said it would be easy but, it's got to be so very frustrating. Keeping you both in my thoughts.
