Hello September

Things are winding down.  Many of the tourists have left, only the weekend people will be around until they close their cottages for the winter.  School will start on Tuesday.

I opened my big mouth and volunteered to take Far Guy’s 50th Reunion Class Group Photo…it was a moment of complete insanity or stupidity. I am praying for a cloudy day.  Far Guy and I scouted out photo locations at the venue where the class will meet.  I have enlisted the help of an older PRHS alumni to help me get the group ready…sounds like about 75 people will be there…Far Guy’s class  of 1968 was 157 graduates.  So only about half will show up.  Far Guy has been real busy with the preparations.  He is the go to guy for all the last minute glitches. The Class Booklet is being put together today…I was asked to help since it is a holiday weekend and everyone is busy.

My desk is still a mess…yes those recipe cards are black and white and then I color them…I got them at a Dollar General Store.

Yesterday I worked on cleaning my garage.  It was warm in there..and I am about half done.  When I came in to cool off I worked on options for this years Christmas Card.  I needed to make a template for my stamp…cause I only want part of the stamp to show…complicated and I am certain it involved some Math that I forgot a long time ago.  Good old trial and error worked!  I will work on Christmas Cards at Craft Retreat later in the month.

Chance is doing pretty good for an old guy.  He is eating a little of his usual dog food….peas and salmon dry food with his boiled hamburger and rice.  He seems a bit more confused than usual especially if we wake him up.  He first got sick on August 11th so that was three weeks ago…he has finished all of his medications and we will see how he does.

  1. Glad to hear Chance is finished with his meds and starting back on regular food. I get confused when I wake up, too, so it must be an old age thing. :-)

  2. :( For Chance, but happy he is still able to enjoy life, this is so good.
I need to find an indoor project to do soon! September is bringing in more and more days of heavy rain.

  3. I'm glad Chance is doing as well as he is. Katie (who is going to be 12 in Dec) sometimes wakes up confused too..and she's sleeping deeper (or else she doesn't hear as well). But she's still a happy girl most of the time, and likes to go for walks, just shorter walks in cooler temps.

For your photo volunteerism....don't worry too much. I volunteered to take photos of a wave runner parade this past July. I was worried too. The wave runners would be roaring past a boat I'd be in. My boat would be rocking, they'd be moving fast. I was having trouble with my camera being able to focus on top of everything else. I just tried to factor in as much as I could and I did the best I could, and most of the shots came out. There were a few that got by me, and I'm sure those people were disappointed, and 2 that weren't in focus, but overall it went well. I got lots of comments when I posted the images on their group FB page.

For your thing, you know to check before you click to see if you can see a pair of eyes for everyone. If not, yell, "hey guy in the yellow shirt move 2 inches to the left!" or whichever way he needs to move. And maybe if you were up on a ladder it would go better. And maybe do one silly one, after you get the more formal group shot...like one where everyone is waving, or making funny faces or something. Sometimes those are the ones that most people love.

  4. Since I had my camera with me, I just fell into the roll of photographer at my 50th HS reunion. It was kind of funny, me herding everyone around, making my presence well known, when I was so shy and introverted and invisible in high school.
Thanks for explaining about the recipe cards.
Good old Chance. We all love your dog.

  5. If nothing else, the photography event will give you something to tell us about. I've had the same job for Tom's high school class reunion. A lot different than your experience will be. He only had 22 in his graduating class and about half of them came to the reunion. My rule of thumb for group pictures is take 3 or 4 or 5. I take them quickly. Everyone usually have their eyes open in at least one photo.:o) Give Chance a hug for me.

  7. My 50th reunion came and went without me. Our son and his wife came that weekend and I didn’t get to either day’s events. It does sound like Chance is better. It is good the meds took care of specific problems. Barney seems to be using the other senses to get around as his eye sight is so limited. He really is getting the best of all worlds with two healthcare givers surrounding him each day. I am sure it is quieting down with everyone going home. My son says Bar Harbor is that way in Maine. Everything shuts down for the winter season.

  8. We have our 50th this year, too, and I heard a little over half of the 200+ grads will be there. I can't travel (Mpls suburb) so won't be there. I'm sure FarGuy appreciates the help and everyone will have a great time. :)

So glad Chance is doing so much better. Now is the test since he finished his meds. Everyone is pulling for our favorite, most handsome dog in Minnesota. :) :)

  9. I'm so happy to hear Chance is doing better and able to eat more regular food. You will do fine with the class photos. You are a very talented photographer! Do you make your own stamps for the cards? I would love to see how you do that - another post maybe?

  10. Sorry, I meant your Christmas cards - you mentioned making a template for the stamp. That sounds like fun. ; )

    1. Yes I needed to have the stamp lined up exactly and the template helps me do that...just a piece of paper with a cut out:)

  11. Well, consider it an honor to be asked to do the photo!

  12. I for one am quite happy to turn the calendar page to September.
It always feels like the beginning of a new year and I guess for kids going back to school it is.

  13. As always...busy, busy, busy! The photo will be exceptional, of course :)

Poor Chance. I hope he does well, once he is off the meds. Can he eat blueberries? Our vet had us feed our little gal frozen blueberries and she loved them (as a treat, or mixed in with her food). Apparently, blueberries are supposed to help with confusion...but I forgot how...

  14. Wow! You are a busy, busy lady. I’m abysmal at taking photos so I never get asked. I’m sure you will do beautifully. You are talented at everything you do. Glad to hear Chance seems to be doing better. Our Chloe is 12 and sometimes is confused when walking too. Well, for that matter, so am I!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  16. Good news about Chance and he sure looks good...Nitty looks old and she seems confused sometimes when I wake her up accidently so I think that's normal. The only thing that wouldn't be normal (I experienced it with my wonder dog Abby...my farm dog) is if they stand still and don't seem to know where they are or where to go. She would just stand in the middle of the yard and then I found her facing the corner of the house...she was in kidney failure which makes them very confused. She was put down that day as the vet said it is a very painful way to go so there was no way I would let her go through that. Silly me, I was hoping she could die at home but that is not always the best. So glad I took her in to see the vet.
Good luck with the class photo...you are in demand! I might have to look for those cards at the Dollar General although I have no time to color right now. They are cute though..show us after you've colored them too please. I need to clean the garage for my sale. So much to do! How did I ever work full time?
