Summer is a great time for reading. Well…anytime is a good time to read.
At the Red Bridge Park in town there is a “little library” it was an Eagle Scouts Service Project in August of 2017.
This is the only little library that I have noticed in town. This one has a missing pane of plexiglass…hopefully someone will repair it so the books don’t get wet.
I am making my way through the series of Trixie Belden Books…I am almost finished with book #5 The Mystery off Glen Road. It is fun to read a book that I read 55 years ago..believe it or not… as I read some of the scenes I recall what happens next.
I am still listening to the Audio Book Lincoln in the Bardo…my daughter gave me her real hold it in your hand book so I may read it along with the audio book someday soon. It is quite a tale…many parts are historical…with some fiction sprinkled in.
I am reading a recipe book…Recipes and Remembrances 125 years by the women of Bethlehem Lutheran Church Ulen Minnesota. It was a gift from my friend Susan.
What are you reading this summer?
I love those little libraries and that one is especially cute. I never read Trixie Belden; I was more of a Nancy Drew girl but I remember hearing about her. I's like to read both of those series. Your Lincoln book sounds good; I really enjoy historical fiction. What are you doing for the 4th? I'm still 'catching up' with reading your blog posts! LOL! It always bothers me when I am 'gone' like that and hoping all is well when I return.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have an interesting batch of books on the go.
ReplyDeleteI read a lot all year round, and post reviews on my blog and on Goodreads. Mostly I read fantasy, sci-fi, or mystery, aimed at any age - children, young adult, new adult, adult... Doesn't matter to me - but I do read other genres sometimes too.
I'm currently working on catching up with Barbara G. Tarn's books, since she writes and publishes books even faster than I usually do, and being a bit behind on my reading plans for this year put me behind on her books. I've just got her two newest sci-fi books to read. Once I've caught up with those, I was going to read "Ask An Astranaught" by Tim Peeks (I think I got his last name spelled right).
I mostly read memoirs and my blow-me-away book of the summer so far is Educated by Tara Westover. In fiction I am currently reading an historical novel, Crooked Heart, by Lissa Evans, which is good but not as much as it was hyped up to be. It takes place during WWII near London and is about a young orphan evacuee who stays with slightly nuts adults during the bombing. The most thought -provoking novel has been The Tortilla Curtain by T.C. Boyle, about illegal Mexicans in California and their collision of,the American Dream as it collides with white America. That one will stay with me for a long time!
ReplyDeleteTrixie Belden was my favorite. Honey, Jim, the twins...........saw one in a antique store a while ago. Too smelly to purchase even for 50cents.
ReplyDeleteI just finished Cloud Atlas (sci fi) and started reading The Dalai Lama's Cat, which I am enjoying very much. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have not read/ listened to anything in a long while that I've really, really enjoyed. I'll check back later to see what gets added to the list here. I've toyed with Lincoln...
ReplyDeleteHow fun to find a Free Little Library in your area. I haven't spotted any new ones for a long time. I enjoy reading cookbooks, too. Church cookbooks always have the best recipes. I just finished The Broker by John Grisham.
ReplyDeleteTrixie Belden was my favorite - also about 55 years ago. I must admit to reading cookbooks too, even though I don't do a lot of cooking any more. I'm a voracious reader and sometimes read a couple of books each week. I just started Sulphur Springs by William Kent Krueger.
ReplyDeleteCute - I enjoy seeing these little libraries around. There used to be a much larger "little library" in the park right next to the nursing home (on the south side) I believe it was put there as a 4-H project but I am not sure if it is still there.
ReplyDeleteI just finished "The Last Tudor", awaiting is "Evicted" and I continue "Grant" ... I highly recommend "The Life and Death of the Great Lakes" ....
ReplyDeleteYou've got lots to read for the summer. I'm reading Happiness is a choice you make by John Leland.
ReplyDeleteI still have all my Trixie Belden books, loved them been thinking of reading them again
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little library. I am still trying to get through "A Light in the Window", the second in The Mitford Series. If I could sit still long enough I might get more reading done.
ReplyDeleteI recently finished "The President is Missing", by James Patterson and Bill Clinton. It was a good read but scary in its portrayal of what cyber warfare could mean to civilization.
ReplyDeleteReading a lot of Agatha Christie - Miss Marple and Hercules Poirot!
ReplyDeleteThey really are such a great think. A lot of fun for people of all ages. I am sure some people keep books but they bring other books to replace them. They had a few of these in a neighboring town of the old place.
