Salvia

I saw a really nice Salvia up in Grand Rapids at the trial gardens last Fall.  I might try it in my miserable little flower bed. Last summer nothing seemed to thrive.  I was thinking that maybe the dappled sun isn't enough sun and I should try some Impatiens.

Winter time always brings thoughts of which flowers might be worth a try...all the Flower and Seed Catalogs have arrived ...how can you not think about summer.

Salvia Rockin "Playin the blues" it is a Proven Winner.  Blooms were abundant and the bees were really liking the plant so I think the Hummers would like it too!
Just a Cold Update: Still miserable, sneezing and coughing, trying to rest and drink plenty of fluids.  Sleep is elusive.  I started watching Peaky Blinders, Far Guy has watched it and really enjoyed it.  Lots of murder and mayhem for me but I do enjoy the colorful language and the sets...so I am giving it a go....so far I have not fallen asleep watching it.

To frustrate me further my normal Open Live Writer for blogs is having issues...if it isn't one thing it is another.

  1. Guess I'm not the only one having trouble sleeping. It's 4:37 AM here. Hope your cold doesn't last too much longer.

  5. We tried watching Peaky Blinders but after the first episode quit - maybe you have to have a certain gene to enjoy it. On a tour our guide played the music from it and we loved that. Guess it would be a less colorful world if everyone enjoyed and hated the same thing.

  6. It does seem as we age that everything takes longer...cuts to heal, illnesses to go away except for time....that whizzes by! I hope you feel better soon!

  7. Hi Connie - hope each day gets you closer to getting rid of that mean old cold. Its the coughing that hurts the most. Lemon honey hot water? I am planning what to put in my front flower boxes this year and thinking about my two small vegetable areas - kale mostly I think and tomatoes. Maybe a few bean plants. Hugs.

  8. Flower catalogs always bring thoughts of unfrozen earth and blooms--LOL!
Peaky Blinders is violent, that's for sure, but I found the characters interesting and plot twists are always enjoyable to me. One of those violent shows that I wouldn't watch if it weren't for good writing, characters, and acting. I googled them and the show is kind of a compilation of several gangs at the time but there was one called Peaky Blinders. A very different time. I can see where it would keep you awake even when you are sick--LOL! ;)

  10. I have never heard of Peaky Blinders, so I Googled it. Now at least I know what it is. Always good to learn something new.
The seed catalogs always make everything look so good, but so many things in them don't thrive just any old place. It's hard to know. I usually look at what is growing well in gardens near me.
I'm sorry to hear you are still so sick. sure hope you feel better soon.

  11. This is the right time of the year to plan for gardening. You know better than most of us.

  12. Here we're starting to think about what sort of garden we're going to create around our new house.

  13. I will look for that Salvia Playin' the blues. I have had fairly good results with Victoris blue in past years.
Hope that darn cold goes away soon!

  14. Hope your cold heads south very quickly, ugh, not much fun! If a plant needs sun, dappled sun probably isn't enough for it. That blue salvia is quite striking! Miserable rain all day today here, and still pouring down late this evening.

  15. You're the second person who has mentioned Peaky Blinders. I have so many series to watch that I'm not likely to start another one any time soon, but this one does look interesting.Hope you get over this cold soon, it seems like a long time to me.
