Pig in the pink

Our Granddaughter Paige has a Pot Bellied Pig named Sigourney.  Sigourney is friendly and you can pat her on the head.  She does not smell.  She goes outside 3 or 4 times a day to do her duties so she is house broke.  She gets along with the two resident dogs and two cats.

Sigourney

Sigourney in her pink sweater a gift from Maddie.  Sigourney came to greet us as soon as we walked in the door…of course we had a pumpkin pie.

Mikey and Sigourney

Mikey likes Sigourney! (Note Mikey has an undershirt on!)

sigourney and an apple

Sigourney loves apples and cleaned every bit off of the carpet.

She also likes pickles.

I was skeptical about this pig.  Being a “farm girl” I didn’t think a pig should be in the house.   So far as I can see Sigourney is a nice pet…but a pig is not a pet for just anyone.

  1. Having to take the pig outside so many times a day would be hard! Otherwise this pig seems like a good pet and certainly very usual!

  3. My friend (on Facebook) Michaelina Uldrikson has a pot bellied pig pet, named Petunia- what a character she is! They get to be about 250 lbs.

  4. This is the cutest post ever!! Mickey is adorable, and that undershirt looks nice and warm. That's got to be the cutest and cleanest pig I've ever seen. A pink sweater!!

  5. Oh my how neat. Though I would be curious about the "housebreaking" process...:)

  6. Sigourney is cute right now! (just hoping she keeps her slim look and size) and her legs and feet are so delicate. I wonder, does Sigourney ring a bell or anything to indicate that she wants to go out, and are they able to just open the door and she goes out, does her business and comes to be let back in? That would be the ideal situation ;-) Not my choice of pets, but then I've never had one, so maybe I'd love a pig. They are very intelligent and I can imagine them being a lot of fun.

    1. They walk her on a leash or tie her out, her nose might get her in trouble if she was free to wander. They have her potty times timed morning, late afternoon, evening and before bed. She can get by on just three times a day is what I was told but they try to do 4. The pig just holds it until it is her time to go outside.
No my choice of pets either.

  7. Yup--not for me, but I have heard they are intelligent and great companions. But I think they get quite a bit bigger than Sigourney is now. That's great that she is trained to go outside like the dogs. :)

  8. Did you share your pumpkin pie with her? She does look very clean and nice but not snuggly like a dog or cat. I don't think we will be getting one!

  9. It would take a lot of getting used to before I could accept a pig as a pet.

  11. Oh, my! Sigourney is quite a different pet! She sure looks cute right now, though, in her pink outfit. :-)

  13. My older dog is enough work for me. I can tell your granddaughter is a special person who can make it work and enjoys her pet. That great grandson is really growing up fast.

  14. Rabbits and pigs. Must. Resist.

Mikey just gets cuter every day!

  15. That is hilarious but not surprising. I know people rave about the pigs but I am with you, they are not for everyone and I just cannot cross that line.

  16. My dogs are trained to stay in their yard. Right now Nitty is out almost all day and I just check on her once in a while. They won't even chase a deer right across the street! I would never have a pet if I had to walk them 3 or 4 times a day. I have always just let them out but the training is pretty intense at the beginning but it pays off in the end for years! My only concern is someone stealing them. So whenever they bark I check!
