Chance is becoming a little more stubborn particular in his old age. Many times he refuses to go with Far Guy but after a few minutes alone with me, he is ready to go. (Sometimes I have that effect on people too!)
Such was the case yesterday. Far Guy left him with me in the afternoon. I got out my camera and Chance was up the steps (all by himself) and waiting at the door. Once outside he took off like a flash to the garage, back to me, to the woodshop/greenhouse and back to me, I asked him “Where is he?” he took off down the driveway wagging his tail. Nothing is wrong with his nose.
I watched him through the trees, I could tell when he made it as far as Bailey’s house as she started to bark.
Soon he was back with Far Guy.
Then he was done and ready to go back in the house again. I am not sure what goes through his mind sometimes…he likes it when we are in the same room that way he can keep an eye on both of us at the same time. We should not sit on the couch together either…unless he sits in the middle.
He is 12 years and 5 months old now…he just may make it through the winter. He likes routine and “jobs” he gets the mail even on Sundays…everyday must be a mail day to a dog. Supper should be served at 6PM…sharp. One of his “jobs” is seeing that someone is cooking at 5:30 or sooner.
He doesn’t like windy days when tree branches (small twigs) fall from the sky, snow sliding off the roof, fireworks, gun shots or being left at home alone. He doesn’t like carrots or apples as a treat, but will eat blueberries and asparagus. His favorite food is a slice of cheese…which hides his aspirin.
What an adventure it is to share your home with a Border Collie.
Our dogs are really interesting personalities! We have a 12 year old Boston Terrier and he is so interesting. He knows my routine and follows me around the house no matter what time it is day or night.
ReplyDeleteSmart of Chance to know when it is time for supper. Our Enzo has come to know the word "breakfast" and perks up his ears when he hears it.When you have a dog you never have to go to the bathroom or shower alone - ha ha!

Good Morning and hugs to Chance! He sure is a handsome fella. Funny how some pets can "tell time." Our Kaboodle cat alerts us when it is 9 p.m. (that is the time that we always put my mom to bed and that was more than 8 years ago!) So glad that Chance likes cheese as that is a great way to hide pills! Wishing you a very nice week. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThey are funny dogs. Bob always dozes in a spot where she can keep an eye on both rooms we are in, lest one of her sheep escapes and falls off a cliff, I guess. I hope Chance fools you and has another spring and summer left in his old bones, too!
ReplyDeleteHe is such a good boy and a handsome one to . He and our Miggs are very much alike all though she likes carrots and apples but her favorite is watermelon and she like peanut butter to take her aspirin with and she had a table spoon of Greek yogurt every day for her tummy which she loves her yogy we call it . Dogs are amazing and the best company and friends ever , Hope Chance surprises you and keeps on going for years to come . Thanks for sharing , Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteChance is still the handsomest Border Collie in the USA. He may have his quirks (in his advanced years) but we all love him.
ReplyDeleteChance is my surrogate dog, and he's so bright and even knows how to blog! I send him virtual hugs every day. :-)
ReplyDeleteHe is wonderful, just have hope he will be with us
ReplyDeletefor a long time. Like DJan he is a great blogger.
I think old age entitles dogs...and humans to have quirks. What a delightful companion for you. Hang in there Chance!
ReplyDeleteAnd I've always said many times our pets train us rather than we train them. Smart dog!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful dog...we have all grown to love him through the years!
ReplyDeleteMy girls are slipping and it's hard to watch but then they're probably saying the same thing about me! LOL! Chance has a ways to go!
ReplyDeleteDon't even hint at Chance not being around! He's my virtual cyber dog and is special to me! I haven't gotten over losing Miss Karma. I hope Chance will be around for a long time to come. They are family. We put up with their quirks and eccentricities...as you do with family. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's even more entertaining to share it with two!! Kind of depressing to read that you 'think' he will make it through the winter, are you just joking, or is he that bad? Jake is a little bit older, not much, and while very grey in the face, is still in good shape, I think. Not carrying any extra weight and seems to be able to do most everything he used to. Doesn't have the endurance of course. I started feeding mine Golden Paste. Not so much because they needed it, more of a preventative, and the same with myself. If you are at all interested it is called the Turmeric Users Group based out of Australia (on Facebook). Started by a vet, and it is wonderful to read all the success stories that people and their animals have had with it. Give Chance a scritch from me!
ReplyDeleteIt must be the age thing with them. Barney can just drive me crazy as he del lopes new habits and t hen says now I don't want to do that. He is exhausted today as he had to greet all the furnace workers and phone guy and the electrician. Everyone of them love dogs and were so nice to him. They did make noise that caused him to hide in the bathroom.
ReplyDeleteYour Chance is such a beautiful dog. I love your stories and pictures of him. Hoping he will be around awhile yet. So hard to see loved pets leave us.
ReplyDeleteChance certainly has a lot of character. Knows exactly what he wants it seems.
ReplyDeleteI love your stories about Chance, too. What a wonderful dog, and a great friend to you and FG.
ReplyDeleteI love your stories about Chance! He is so handsome and smart! I hope he is with you all longer than you think.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine what it will be like years from now with the quirky Miss Mia. She also likes her humans in the same place with her princess self in the middle. She wants her supper on time and wants to be out the door for chores on her schedule too....and like Miss Kits there is a certain order in which they are to be done.....and she just turned one.....what will. Be like when she's 12🙄
ReplyDeleteHe is looking wonderful for his age!
ReplyDeleteWell...he's just particular, okay?
ReplyDeleteOur vet told us to feed our dog blueberries because it is supposed to help the memory. Our little pooch is not far behind your Mr. Spoiled Rotten, so she needs all the help she can get. Except...my husband is sure she carries a wrist watch with an alarm set for dinnertime. She never misses.
