Chance: The Trees

Hiya it is me Chance the most handsome Border Collie in all of Minnesota…and perhaps the smartest one too!

One afternoon they set up two trees in the house, one upstairs…I don’t care about that one but they moved furniture downstairs and put up a tree there too!

I can no longer play keep away or run around the circle…since it is blocked with a love seat.  I am not a fan of CHANGE.  Now I have to make a circle around the coffee table…so does Far Guy when he does his walk in the house.  Sometimes he loses track of his laps, so he puts ten pennies in his pocket and deposits one at the end of every round into a pretty little bowl on the windowsill in the kitchen.  Whatever works!

This is my loveseat and it used to be where that tree is.

Far Side says “Don’t worry Chance Christmas trees don’t stay up forever.”

I don’t go up to the way upstairs anymore.  They could put both trees up there!   I used to go up there to visit and look out the door…but I am getting older and the steps are getting to be too much for me. I still make it up the steps to the landing but not way upstairs.  Far Side says it is just as well, less dog hairs to clean up.

  1. Hey, Chance, Bob here. You look mighty handsome there by that pretty tree. I know you are a little grumpy about Christmas changes but the good news is, I bet there are some presents under that tree with your name on them!
    Merry Christmas to ya, Chance!

  2. Hi Chance:
Always fun to hear from you and get the canine viewpoints.Don't feel bad about having trouble climbing stairs It comes with being a senior citizen and happens to many of us.
You are as good looking as ever and that is the important thing!

  3. It's always fun to visit with such a smart dog, and I think you'll manage the change of your love seat until the tree is down. It will come down after Christmas, Chance. You are still very handsome, but you already knew that. :-)

  5. Poor Chance. I feel your pain. We have a tree in the living room, too, for some reason. And Mom has told me the bouncy grandboys will be here in a couple of days and I'll lose my quiet house! (from Mamie the Wonder Dog.)

  6. Oh Chance, folks are always messing with things, aren't they? You sure are pretty, next to that Christmas tree though. Eli says, "friend, you're lucky. You should see this shoe box of a house I live in, even without a tree!" :) Merry Christmas!

  7. My Mom does that with the pennies for counting things...too funny! Far Guy is smart to walk inside. It's just the opposite here as Mom has been cleaning and taking stuff to the basement and so I have even more places to lay down and lounge around now. I have to go down a few stairs to get outside but so far so good. Mom says if it gets bad she'll get the ramp out of the car but I hope it doesn't come to that. Lucky you getting up on the furniture! Mom doesn't allow us except Grace and Miss Peeps. Annie sometimes sneaks when Mom's gone but I don't and now even Annie can't jump up there with her back problems. I hope you have a great Christmas and get some neat treats....toys are a thing of the past but treats? Oh yeah! We'll take those any day! Stay warm and keep the snow out of between your toes! 8. Good morning Chance. Are you saying Christmas is a bummer? How do you like all the new smells around the house at Christmas time?

  9. I love that second photo of Chance! Yes, Chance I'm not a huge fan of the disruption a Christmas tree creates either.

  10. I really hate change, too! At least the tree will come down and you are in your same home. Moving to a new place at this age is just awful. Karma

  11. Oh that look... poor guy! It's ok Chance life will return to normal in a couple of weeks. We had to move our loveseat too to make room for the tree.
Merry Christmas to you from Tess, Reba and Thea! (And Reba says it's ok to not be able to make it up the stairs anymore,)

  13. Funny! We have to move Jake's chair every year, to the other side of the living room, when we put the tree up. He doesn't seem to mind and figures it out right away. Since our main living area is upstairs, thankfully the dogs are still good at doing them. Christmas will be over before you know it, and things will be back to normal :-)

  15. Your parents tree is loaded. It is very good looking. I know that routine is strong in your behavior. Barney can't abide by much in the schedule changes in our lives. He certainly does now want anyone sleeping in when there is daylight outside.
