Sundogs

It turned cold.  I knew there were sundogs out there.  My other baby brother called to confirm it.  Chance and I took off.  I just grabbed my zoom lens not my wide angle one….how stupid was that.

This sundog pillar was quite tall.

Sundog on the left and the sun just out of the frame on the right.
the other sundog
The other sundog was not as tall and harder to see.
Sundogs are ice crystals that are picked up by the suns rays.  Think rainbow but only partial and without all the colors.  Although I have seen sundogs ring the sun.

Far Guy thinks he has the flu now because he aches all over.   He had the flu shot and it was the special one for those over 65.  He might be a tad better…but not much.

I suffered through the mid part of the day with my ear buzzing and fluttering so I finally gave up and had a nap.  That ball of wax that is 64 years old just doesn’t want to give up the fight…it must be attached to a really really long ear hair.  Needless to say nothing Christmasy got done.

  1. Beautiful photos. Only once have I seen a sun dog and I would not have noticed it had I not read your blog about them! So sorry you both feel so bad. Take care and I pray you both improve soon.

  2. It's never fun to be sick, but this time of year it's even harder. I'm also hoping you both recover sooner rather than later. Hugs to you. :-}

  5. Hope Far Guy will feel better soon. Maybe see a doctor about the flu? And why do these things always happen on weekends or holidays? Hope that pesky ball of ear wax will come out soon. Please both of you take good care of yourselves.

  6. Gorgeous sun dogs - a change in the weather is on its way.

  7. Since sundogs just occur during cold weather, it seems worthwhile to hang around in the cold and take wonderful pictures! I don't think they happen in our part of the world (the Pacific North West).

  10. Sorry to hear that Far Guy is sick, I have never been a believer in the flu shot and won't get them.
    I usually see sun dogs as a circle around the sun, not those long vertical ones- very cool!

  14. I love that you post about sun dogs cuz I never knew about them until following you. So sorry for the maladies you both are experiencing. FG does NOT need serious stuff like that. And it is NO fun to have ear problems!!!! The cliche is true that when we have our health, we have EVERYTHING! Christmas is about time with loved ones - - even though we like the trimmings. Glad you didn't stress but rested instead. Remember stressed spelled backwards is desserts - - - so treat yourself!
