Watering Can

I have a watering can out in the yard, it is attached to a stake in the ground.  The can itself is suspended in the air above a bird bath.  In the summer time birds are attracted to dripping water, I put ice cubes in the can and they will drip all day long.

Here is another view.

Watering can two

Far Guy made this for me a long time ago.  Usually if I envision something and explain it to him …then he can build it.

I shopped for a new watering can for this project, I have several antique watering cans but I didn’t want to put holes in them.

Far Guy is feeling better.  Hopefully he didn’t overdo feeling better yesterday.

  1. That's a great idea, especially the ice cubes. I need a Far Guy to execute all my great ideas!
On my walk yesterday I could hear chickadees calling their two-note spring song. So hopeful!

  2. You would not believe how many times I've tried to rig up a bucket or something to hang over a bird bath to drip water. How perfect is that! A watering can and ice cubes! And, it looks good! Once again I've caught up reading your posts. Hope Far Guy is feeling better. Oh and the bead sculpture is neat!

  5. Okay, there will now be watering cans sweeping the nation. I'm already thinking about where to position mine.
I'm happy the germs at your house are departing.

  8. Love the concept, but it wouldn't work in our 30oC+ heat. I'd constantly be filling the watering can with ice lol

Unless - perhaps if I painted the watering can white it wouldn't get so hot and cause the ice to melt so quickly...?

  12. Yes you get to feeling a little better then go out and do things that set you back. My wife is better. Better than yesterday anyway. The watering can idea is wonderful. I at first thought it was set up to be a nest. Warmer today, which means it is above freezing but not hotter than 50 degrees.

  15. What a neat idea! We haven't added a bird bath because we fear it would become a lunch tray for neighborhood cats. But fewer cats are let out these days, so maybe we'll try it.

  16. Glad to learn that Far Guy is feeling better. What a clever use of the watering can! It looks great, too. I have an old one and would have a hard time putting holes in it, too.

  17. That is one "cool." idea! It also works if you set up your hose so the the water will dribble in a puddle. Birds come from all over the place. Try it. It should work in a place like yours.

  21. So glad Far Guy is feeling better...just in time for Spring! I love that idea and the ice too....I never knew that. Brilliant! I want one now. I have all kinds of ideas all the time but I look around and there are no assistants so that means I have to do it and you know how slow I am! LOL! If I would have had a husband like Far Guy I might have kept him! But we'll never know now because I don't plan on ever getting married again! LOL! I'm having too much fun all by myself. Great idea Far Side and great implementation Far Guy!
