The road home for most of my life. I have lived here or near here for 43 years except for 19 years elsewhere from 1969 to 1986 and then again from 1995 to 1997.
From the vantage point on this rise I can see the Smoky Hills State Forest in the distance and the fields that lie on either side of the road and the ribbon of highway stretching before me. I took these photo out the windshield…no I was not driving.
The fields are black and the snow and dirt (snirt) are melting in the ditches. No problem with flooding this year…at least not so far. I can see the Fire Tower in the distance but I know right where to look for it after 43 years.
We are unseasonably warm. It was 48 F or 8 C eh! The sunshine was so warm. I wore my crocs with socks and it felt so good. Today I will haul a couple of lawn chairs out of the garage! Just think we are about 70 degrees warmer than we were ten days ago. Will it last? Probably not but it is a nice winter break.
Can't say as I have lived in any one place that long - even growing up. It was unseasonably warm here yesterday also. Today is more of the same. I'm with you about getting out a lawn chair and soaking up some sunshine.
ReplyDeleteWe have been enjoying warm weather, too. It won't change again until just in time for our hike on Thursday, as usual. It's amazing how that works. :-)
ReplyDeleteSo happy you are getting a break from all the cold weather. We are warming up today as well...should be near 70 degrees, but not much sunshine yet. We need rain so no complaints.
ReplyDeleteWow!!!! Nice weather indeed. We will be up to 9 digits Thursday I hope, by by snow.Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteMy mother used to call these days "false spring." They are just enough to tease before Winter has another blast before letting go. These days are usually before State Basketball tournament in early March.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got a break from the frigid winter weather! Enjoy the warm temps.
ReplyDeleteI so love those days of spring that are sprinkled through out the winter.
ReplyDeleteI spotted the fire tower, but I had to enlarge your photo . . . and put on my glasses! I have not lived in one place as long as you have, That's amazing! Crocs! That reminds me to take my granddaughter shoe shopping. She wants a pair of crocs.
ReplyDeleteGosh, you really don't have much snow. Doesn't bode well for summer.

I felt that way of being home again when I spent a few years getting my parent's home ready for sale. The town that I went to school has changed too much but the town that my parents live in and we went shopping really did stay the same. I have no way to go home again now and I may someday move away for this home.
ReplyDeleteIn the UK we also had a lovely sunny warm weekend to 8c. False spring as tired teacher says is exactly how they are here. A tease and often not indicative of the summer to come.
ReplyDeleteKey word ...winter break. We have above average temps here too. But it's only March so we can still get very nasty weather. However , I do like your spring photos with the water in the ditches.
ReplyDeleteWe also got up in the 40's, makes you think spring for sure! No, snow! You are even luckier than we are! Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteThere's still an old wooden watch tower up in my neck of the woods (near Galena, IL) that was there when I was a child. Not sure if it's still in use. You're warmer than we are. It's been in the 40's low 50's, rainy, foggy, gloomy and gray. No sun here but they say tomorrow will be sunny and in the 60's but no 70's in sight. Then Thursday we're back to rain for the whole weekend. I don't m ind...I'd rather have the rain than "fire danger" warnings. Did you watch the finale of the bachelor???
ReplyDeleteSeventy degrees warmer is a wild and crazy swing for ten short days...
ReplyDeleteFinally - some sunshine and melting snow! Hurray.
ReplyDeleteNo snow stick contest this year! Enjoy the warmth.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy warmth during this crazy winte.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, long term forecasts are saying we are done with the cold but I know I sure would like to see more moisture! What a lovely trip down you "home road"!
ReplyDeleteIf I count where I grew up, the longest I have lived in one place has been 12 years. Since I left home up until I moved to Fargo the longest was six years (and that was in Moorhead right before I moved here). I just marked ten years here and feel like I've been here forever. Can't even imagine 43 years. Talk about roots. :)
ReplyDeleteThis weather is about a month or two early. We could still get snow again...but the spring-like weather is a nice change after the frigid winter. I think you're right about the 70 degree jump!
