The Refuge

We ran an errand..Okay we went to Menards in Detroit Lakes to buy a new folding table and a few solar lights… big shopping trip!  We came back through Tamarac Wildlife Refuge.

Hardly a creature was stirring. No birds…no deer.

Pine Lake

There was a dog out on the ice with some fishermen on Pine Lake.

Ottertail River

The Ottertail River is low.  Usually we can spot an Eagle or two here. Nada.  After we got home I heard that over fifty Bald Eagles were at Flat Lake…so we were close but no cigar.

Somone bit off more than he could chew

Someone was working on a big tree…I wonder how long until it topples over?

Chance at the refuge

Sunday was a lovely day for an outing.  It was 70 F or 21 C eh!  We drove slowly through the refuge with our windows down …it was a real treat.  That was our last warm day.  Monday our temperatures dropped by 40 degrees…much more seasonal for us.  It was nice while it lasted…it was just a taste of spring.  It gives the cooped up people hope that spring will come eventually.

  3. 70 sounds nice, better than our 45. No creatures, that is how it goes sometimes. When you expect to see something you don't, and when you don't expect to see something you do. Hope you enjoy that lovely spring weather.

  4. Nice pictures! I love driving around (especially with the windows down) looking at nature. Was very warm here yesterday, then the temps dropped drastically. Much cooler today but normal. At least it feels like Spring is comin

  5. Happy St. Patty's Day. I know it's secondary to Urdo in your part of the world, but I'm just reminding myself to wear green. Thanks for the stroll and the nice drive. :-)

  6. The pictures are nice, even though there isn't any wildlife...the water and the woods are lovely. Interesting to see a beaver cutting away at the tree. Those warm days in the north are a treat, for sure!

  7. That last picture is really nice and we too have dropped in temps but are supposed to be near 70 again Friday. This morning just a tad of snow on the ground - we'll take it!

  14. The last two days have been dreary - overcast with nary a ray of sunshine. Yuck!

  15. While traveling towards Boone yesterday we saw Chance's twin. The border collie was out sitting and string at the pen full of sheep. I think he was on duty as he didn't see us drive by or he chose not to stir. Another pretty black and white.

  17. We've been away, so I've just been catching up on your posts. Glad you finally got some 'decent' weather, but would it be very unusual for you NOT to get any more snow accumulation this early on? It seems weird to see your snow stick 'naked':) We have had an early Spring here, and even in Oliver, where the winters are colder, the daffodils and forsythia are blooming, and we ran the lawnmower over the grass before we left.
If Chance is overweight, it would be good to get some of it off, it would be much easier on his joints, especially if he has some arthritis. He is the same age as Jake. We all want Chance to be a ball playing crazy border collie as long as possible:)

  18. I love going to Menards, though I don't have such a scenic route as you do. Officer Friendly would have taken any route where he could see eagles. Good to have the car windows down, though, right?
