Out with the guys

Our company from Iowa is here.  We went to the County Fair in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.

Detroit Lakes Fair

Seemed like old times…walking the Midway.

Wild HorsesHorses three abreast, this Allan Herschell Merry Go Round is a beauty…even better since we knew who bought this Merry Go Round when it was brand new. ..our good friend Joe who died in 2012.

We wandered through the commercial exhibits and found some old cars.

gene and a 1953 Desoto

A 1953 Desoto..the old guys there talked our ears off.

There is a lot of talking your ears off going on around here. Our Iowa friend got a new car (a Ford) the backseat is reasonably comfortable…but I cannot stretch out completely….I kinda miss that old Cadillac..he said it got horseshit gas mileage.

  1. I do hope you got some junk food while at the fair. That's a beautiful carousel.

  2. What a beautiful carousel! County fairs are my favorite - more up close and personal. If your friend had a Cadillac he was right about the gas mileage.

  6. I recall owning a car that got 11 miles to the gallon. There wasn't anything about that car that made the cost of gas worthwhile!!! (Not even sex in the big backseat!)

  7. Desotos were not common here . I think the odd one was bought in the States and brought here.

  8. I have to work a booth for the refuge at that fair on Saturday. Maybe I had better figure out where the heck it is? ;)

  9. Those carousel horses are a bit scary looking! Our fair is on tomorrow through Monday. I'll be there a couple of days as part of the horse and hound show, but don't know how much more looking around I'll do. It is going to be hot those days.

  10. The County Fair is in full swing here, too, but no lovely carousels. Caddie and gas mileage are definitely NOT synonymous. Did you ride the Ferris Wheel?

  11. Detroit Lakes has my vote for most colorful county fair! Either that, or you know just how to capture the high points ;)

Hope you all have a great visit!

  12. Horseshit gas mileage! Now that is a new one on me. Funny!

  13. Horseshit gas mileage is a problem with my Silverado pulling a camper. My local dealer has a Traverse with a towing package for only Forty Eight Thousand plus a few options. Yah sure! I'd have to sell the camper, the wifes old Buick, and my fishing boat, plus go back to a tent. Can you fish from shore at Mantrap?

    1. I am sure you can from the Public Access...but that wouldn't be very exciting fishing:)

  15. I love a county fair! Sure hate he sold the Cadillac. In 1953 my daddy bought a brand new Desoto, the same color as that one. Someone in the family had a picture of daddy standing by the new car. I sure was proud when daddy dropped me off at school driving that new car!
