Sure there are the normal dangers; rocks, twigs and PI ( Poison Ivy) and trees to watch out for.
I never dreamt that I would encounter a deer like I did yesterday. I was tootling along, I am finally getting the hang of that hydrostatic drive that some man invented where I have to push in the pedal to move forward…there is some fancy crap you have to do to go backwards…turn the key a certain way and push a button and then press some other pedal…I hardly ever back up anyways. I usually just get off and push it backwards.
Anyways I was tootling along minding my own mowing business and a deer came out of nowhere and jumped over me and the mower. Talk about a scary experience…good thing she or he was a good jumper.
Last evening we went for a ride…saw this one..it might have been her?

So now I will warn everyone look out for deer when you are mowing, they cannot be trusted…luckily I am unscathed and it was a good thing I went to the bathroom before I began mowing.
No danger of a deer hiding on my lawn. At least I think not although the grass is getting so long, who knows. Perhaps I had better borrow your mower.

ReplyDeleteHoly cannoli! Close call and scary! That happened to me once except they didn't jump over me...I was coming out from beneath the sheets and clothes I had just hung on the line and Nitty was out there in the yard and this deer came running through the yard and almost ran me over. It didn't see me and I hadn't seen it. I know there was a gal in Iowa walking her dog that was attacked by a deer in rut.....must have been a blind deer!

ReplyDeleteYou are lucky that there was no injury. One kick of their hooves does a lot of damage. I would think that the deer was somehow startled by the mower. I don't think he said to his friend watch me jump over this lady!

ReplyDeleteGlad you are okay! That first paragraph could be me. That's why around here the push mower is mine. Poppy was mowing around the pond last week and mowed right up to a newly born fawn. He stopped the mower and got off just as the mother ran out of the woods. Poppy backed away and gave the mother deer and baby time to leave.

They get spooked easily but it must have not had time to think when running into a clearing that the mad mower was on the loose.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Jumped right over you and the mower?! Why didn't she run an opposite direction? Maybe she was trying to attract you away from a fawn? How strange--and scary. They are BIG!
