I couldn’t resist this little feeder. Pretty little thing that it is.
It is Far Guys favorite color. I bought it at Menards. Yes, I like to shop at Menards once in a while. I was on a mission..I was looking for one of those dog thingys..a blanket with two loops on each side to go over the head rests in the back seat. Something that I could take out and wash or shake off. I swear the seats in our car are like Velcro and attract Chance’s fur. I wandered through the very short automotive aisle and ended up in the pet aisle buying stuff for birds.
Did you know that you can buy suet with meal worms? Did you know that you can buy containers of dehydrated meal worms? Did you know meal worms are a favorite food of Bluebirds?
Yesiree! We are ready for them if they show up!
I wonder what will happen to them if it rains?
I hung it quite high on a branch, one little Nuthatch checked it out but didn’t stay long.
Yesterday I sat out on the patio just watching the birds. I am still tired..
The Purple Finches have been here a few days, I finally got a photo!
The big fundraising dinner for the Museum was a success, we raised some funds! I am not sure of exactly how much yet, but every little bit helps. We served 150 dinners. We presold tickets and took reservations. The guests enjoyed the music and the dinner program.
I am TRYING to educate all the members and volunteers. Last year when we had the fund raiser everyone that worked in the kitchen or helped out in any way..ate free..except for Far Guy and I. This year I told them all in no uncertain terms that everyone would need a paid ticket.
Well wouldn’t you know it..one of the volunteers/members returned his tickets to me on Friday ..saying “I had no luck selling the tickets.” YET he showed up at the dinner, grabbed a plate and helped himself… I said “Gee..Waldo since you returned all your tickets I didn’t make you a reservation.” Too which he replied “Oh I am fine, I just like to help out in the kitchen.” DUH..??
Picture me banging my head on a wall…whilst uttering bad words. May the fleas of 1,000 camels infest Waldo’s armpits or hair elsewhere on his body:) :) Yes that is a double smile
That is a very uniques bird feeder, beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGlad your fund raiser was a success.
No, I knew none of the meal worm info. I too want bluebirds but I have had no luck with any birds this spring. Do like the feeder. Very unique.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very unusual feeder, but I did know about mealworms and certain birds. Love your purple finch picture. He's beautiful. I went to a fund raiser on Saturday and paid $10 for the dinner, which was made by the organizers. It was a nice way to help out. There was a silent auction afterwards but I didn't end up getting anything. I was just as glad.
ReplyDeleteAt least you only had one deadbeat, right? Waldo is in it for himself and doesn't care at all about the museum, obviously.
Dumb like a fox!!! as the saying goes. I'm going to have to check our Menards for one those feeders. I get bluebirds passing through for a week or so. Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteThat is a very unique feeder, I love it! I'll have to check Menards here and see if they carry it. Let's hope the fleas of 10,000 camels find Waldo.
ReplyDeleteLove your new feeder. We have bluebirds in the box that Mr. hung on the fence. We love watching them. You might laugh, but we buy vinyl (flannel backed) tablecloths at Wal-Mart to protect seats etc. from our pets. Since it is vinyl, you can just cut a hole in it to fit around something to secure it. At Christmas, WalMart had a zillion Christmas tablecloths left over and we bought several of the biggest sizes for less than $3!!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to draw bluebirds into town. I know they are out there but they never venture in the city limits. I like Menards. I do a lot of looking there and try not to do much buying. I get my picture frame molding there.
ReplyDeleteThe nerv of some people!
ReplyDeleteI have heard all about the meal worms but as for me I'd rather just stick to seed here for the birds EWWW !!! Knowing our luck Miggy would end up eating them some how ! Hope they bring the Bluebirds for ya ! Have a great day !
Love the bluebird feeder. My Blue clans have their first round of broods in their nest. I too wonder what happens to the worms when water is added! Heeehehehe!
ReplyDeleteGirl, ya sure know how to cast a great spell!!! Waldo...beware! :o)
Some people!
Have a wonderfully blessed day sweetie!!! :o)
I can hear Waldo scratching from here:) Some people!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope that birdfeeder has drainage holes, is it made out of glass? My first look made me think it looked like some sort of tupperware container.
Hi Karen, Yes it has three little drainage holes in each corner, it is made from plastic:)
DeleteCongratulations on the success of your first fund-raiser dinner. Shame on that free loader who didn't bother to try to sell tickets but showed up expecting a free dinner. Hope he didn't get one. Good idea for all volunteers who sold tickets to sell one to themselves. It's a contribution!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the fund-raiser!
ReplyDeleteAnd lovely bird shot.. let's hope your worms attract the bluebirds.
Poor Waldo, dumb, and infested with fleas...lol.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have a little educating to do, and you are the right person to do it.
Jen @ Muddy Boot Dreams
Love the bird feeder. I have never seen the blankets with the loops for the headrest. Sounds like a great idea. Does Waldo have a screw loose or just no clue?
ReplyDeleteWhere's Waldo? Circling in his own universe. How nice for him to be so flippin' interpersonally inept. Sometimes I wish I had that ability, how grand his life must be, just sucking and sucking and suckin away at life.
ReplyDeleteBut at least he wasn't the norm this year and you had a good time and benefited the museum.
The birds are lovely and a lovely way to rest and restore. The feeder is very nice. And here's a question, how would you like to be the meal worm farmer? What a claim to fame eh? Okay, I just took a little comment break and looked up meal worms and producing meal worms. I now know more than I really wanted to.
Have a splendid day!
I love them! We have snow today.
ReplyDeleteRespect wildlife!
I know all about mealworms and lizards. I have raised mealworms, as a matter of fact. Doesn't surprise me birds would like them, but it does surprise me they'd like them dried. Huh. Learn something new every day.
ReplyDeleteWaldo needs a new rules check. There's a new sheriff in town, Waldo. ;) I did a couple air head bangs in support, too, as I read that.
Glad your fundraiser was a success...and OVER! Hope your peaceful rest watching the birds gave you the rejuvenation you needed!
ReplyDeleteWhat's that old saying..."20% of the people do 80% of the work". It's true and you are one of the 20% for sure! Congratulations on your success! There will always be those who want something for nothing...unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteThe bird feeder is gorgeous but I was wondering too what happens when it rains. Didn't know about he mealy worms or the lavender finch....I think I was mistaking them for female cardinals! I need to get the binoculars out. Plus, I would love to attract bluebirds. I've seen a few but not many.
As for your back seat cover for the dogs....great minds think alike...I have been looking for the same thing and I think I found it at Harriet Carter's...you know those little t.v.guide size catalogs you get in the mail? It was either her or another one like it. You can go to the website if you don't have a catalog. I haven't ordered one yet but I need to! There is so much I need in the Springtime...I swear it's getting pricier than Christmas! I'll have to have a Springtime club along with a Christmas Club. And I'm tired and really slow today but it's gotten chilly here again and I think that's why. I wish we were neighbors...I'd trade you for mine! LOL!
Congrats on the fund raiser! Woohoo!
ReplyDeleteWaldo must have figured you meant all of the other volunteers... but not him!
Love your finch. I do hope you get Bluebirds. We had some here a few weeks ago, but I haven't noticed if they took advantage of any of the 8 birdhouses we have! Well, OK, so only 3 of those are built to bluebird specs!
Maybe we'll have to get mealworms!
Congratulations on the success of your fund raiser!
ReplyDeleteI agree. Hopefully the bad karma will come back to that guy.
I did not know that about bluebirds. Thanks for the information, Far Side.
Hope you have a wonderful week! :o)
I went on a web site once to find out about how to raise meal worms for the bluebirds and it turns out the web site I was reading was about raising meal worms for people to eat. People to eat. Reflect on that for a moment. Eeeuuuuwwww.
ReplyDeleteYou can easily make a dog hair cover for your car out of polar fleece. Just cut small slits for the head rests and for the seat belt ends. I take the headrests off, put on the cover and put the headrests back. That anchors it very well. Fleece does not fray and is very durable. It's also quite the dog hair magnet!
ReplyDeleteDarnnit no Menards here but I like that feeder. I am having ideas about putting mealworms in my one glass bird stand though. The blue birds would love it (and probably every other bird too but hey).
ReplyDeleteYour birds get the Cadillac of food. Now for the tricky volunteer. I'm sure everybody has met this guy!
