We went out and about to see what other signs of spring we could find.
The ice went out on the lake on March 23 or early on March 24.
For years and years I kept track of the ice out dates. One year it was May..most of the time it was right around April 18. That is our oldest daughters birthday, so that was easy for me to remember as an average date. That would mean that we are officially 25 days ahead of our usual ice out date.
The pussy willows are busting out at the Dead Beaver Area.
Far Guy and I were talking..how much of this “new weather” is just a fluke of nature? What else can we realistically blame it on..global warming? The earthquake last year in Japan shifting the earth’s axis? Obama..that is a funny..well maybe not so much. I read where the weathermen are blaming it on “atmospheric blocking” or a blocking pattern. Weather repeats itself for days and even weeks. What ever it is I like it! However I find it hard to believe that winter is over.
Yesterday I saw a mosquito and a bee. The Junco’s left. A pair of robins sits high in a tree near the patio to watch Chance. Far Guy is watching to see how long it will take them to build their nest on his step ladder that rests against the east side of his garage. It is a high dry spot to raise a family.
We watched Hockey yesterday. The Fighting Sioux or North Dakota as they are called for the purposes of the NCAA is one step closer to the Frozen Four. They play again today. I cleaned the bathroom closet whilst watching the game yesterday. Today I will tackle the drawers in the bathroom..I have new drawer liner stuff and everything! I can watch hockey and spring house clean all at the same time:)
Spring seems early for everyone this year. I love your photos today. I've been cleaning bathroom drawers/closets etc. too. I have to be careful not to close the cats up in the cabinets!
ReplyDeleteEveryone is talking about the weather this year. I hope it stays warm. I hate to think of all the budding flowers and trees being damaged by a return of cold. I like your photo of the pussy willow - very pretty. I don't watch much college hockey, but I watch the pros - Chicago Blackhawks fan! It's a great sport. Good luck to your North Dakota team.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch any sports, but I remember my dad had a TV in every room with a different football game playing on each one. He would then hustle from room to room watching them all at once. Spring is right on track here in the Pacific Northwest, but it's the only part of the country (the West Coast) that is below normal in temperatures. It is I think a simple weather anomaly. I think.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting about the early "ice-out" date. We have just got in from a walk in the woods and it is almost summer-like outside. What does it all mean!!
ReplyDeleteWe've had bumble bees patrolling our yard for a couple weeks now.
ReplyDeleteAnd the mosquitoes are out! >:o/
Have a great day!
We have bees and mosquitos, the pond next door is running swiftly and the peepers are loudly singing Spring! in the evening. Also, the tics/fleas are back (yuck!).
ReplyDeleteSo happy you have spring now ! Awesome post and photos ! We also have bees and skitters as we call them here lol I even saw two small butterfly's the other day and our peepers are also singing loud ! Have a great day !
ReplyDelete25 days seems significant!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving our spring, but I do worry that we haven't had moisture, other than the snow that finally all melted. I also worry that we may have some snow storms and cold weather around the corner that will damage all of my flowers and fun things that are resounding to the warm weather!
I love your shot of the willows. So pretty!
We have had Juncos in the winter the past couple of winters. You have me wondering just how far North that they migrate. I have heard about the ice going out on Lake Pokegama for years but never once have I heard the sounds or experienced it. I haven't a doubt that we could have snow on this nice green grass down here. The temperatures always seem to balance out.
ReplyDeleteI think all the wind we've had has helped eliminate the snow and ice quickly, too. Lovely shot of the pussy willows. I remember seeing them every spring when I was a kid. Nice!
ReplyDeleteMost women seem to be pretty good multi-taskers. Hockey and cleaning? A snap! ;)
I was thinking maybe our calendar is "off"? Maybe it's taken years to be this noticeable? Just a thought. Love your pictures and I thought I was the only one that still used drawer liners? LOL! Years ago I got some beautiful scented lining paper as a gift and it was Crabtree & Eveleny (I think they're from England) and it was wonderful. I'd like to get some more if they still make it but I bet it's expensive. It seems some countries still make quality products but you have to pay a pretty price for them.
ReplyDeleteI had Junko's here yesterday. They sometimes never stop and certainly never stay. I had to look them up in my bird book to know for sure that's what they were.
ReplyDeleteLove this post, too!
ReplyDeleteWe've been watching curling, well, hubby...
Great to do a couple of things at once!!!!
cheers
We may as well revel in this weather, as long as it's here. I've heard there will be frost but I kinda hope we don't have killing freezes. And I wish I knew where to find pussy willows around here. When I lived in northern Minn we could just drive out into the country and find them along the roadside. I want to show them to Augie, who loved reading about them.
ReplyDeletespring was very late last year. i'm hoping this is just nature evening things out. i am really enjoying this balmy weather. my tulips are about a day from opening.
ReplyDeleteYou know, it's true, everyone is talking about this strange weather and the early spring. I don't know what is going on either. I for one, am happy about it. I don't know what it means for our summer, will it come early? Will it be hotter? Who knows. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteWe are way off here too. This is the earliest spring I can remember and keep waiting forthe frozen ax to fall and chop the fruit blooms off the trees. Maybe it won't happen.
ReplyDeleteDoes make me wonder about the summer.
Don't remember having such a mild winter and early spring. So green.
ReplyDeleteYou are multi-talented! We have been enjoying this weather, no matter what causes it. Hoping that we don't get a hard frost though. It's a little cooler here today and we have a frost advisory. That's normal, but everything is budding out so hoping it doesn't get too cold again.
ReplyDeleteYou are early with your ice, we are later then normal, what's the world coming to?
ReplyDeleteI think that I saw swans yesterday, will send you some photos so you can confirm for me, they are skittish, and far away, sitting like marshmallows on the ice, one had reddish brown and grey feathers on it's head and neck. Would that make it a young swan? Or maybe they are snow geese, but they sure looked big to me.

What ever it is... it's strange. Our juncoes as still hanging around Maybe they did get the word. A to the former Fighting Sioux maybe the whole uproar should be blamed on the Bison. My son attended NDSU,where at a football game in Fargo the Bison students were all shouting "Sioux S.c.s." among other chants. I did not think well of it at the time.
ReplyDeleteTwenty five days early is amazing. The regular dates you list are about the same as here for ice disappearing from the lake. We have not had the extreme mildness you've had We've been mild but not extremely mild.
ReplyDeleteSpring has definitely sprung here! I have dandelions in my lawn and the grass needs mowing.
ReplyDeleteI tell ya, were're a full 20-25 degrees above the norm and I soooo fear that it will come back and bite all the plants that are pokin' up through the earth!
ReplyDeleteWhat great pictures you always have sweetie!
Enjoy your week my friend! :o)
My Sis lives in MSP area and she was sitting poolside last week! (pool not warm enough to jump in yet tho, she said!) Crazy! I've been keeping our fireplace going non-stop and roaring! Guess maybe I should move to MN!
ReplyDeleteI think I like cleaning the bathroom the most of any room in the house, especially the bathroom cupboards and drawers. They stay the tidiest the longest of any other place.
