Ice and Medical Updates

The other day..when things were still normal…we stopped by Leech Lake to walk Chance.  It was still about zero degrees F so it was good ice making weather.

Leech Lake near Whipolt

The ice might have been singing a happy cold chorus..or perhaps it was the water singing its death throes as it was turned into ice.  The sound was almost continual..it came in waves of groans and moans almost as if the lake was serenading someone.  Perhaps it was the waves under the ice trying to break free.. there were huge ice ridges out on the lake.

Chance and Gene December 06 2011

There is not much snow. Just enough to cover the ground in some spots.  The winter shadows are long..and it gets dark at 4 PM…sunset is officially 4:30 PM..but if there are any clouds in the sky it is dark at 4.

Updates:

Far Guy is doing just fine, he is listening to me and is resting and taking his medications.  He has no chest pain..I guess I ask him about it too often because he said “Are you going to ask me that question from now on?”   Maybe..I have not decided yet.

My Mom has a wonderful roommate who is 104.  Mom is still in pain.. and she is very tired.  There are plans in the works for a handicap ramp to be built..possibly she will go home next week. We will see how she progresses.  My brother from Oregon arrived safely.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and prayersSmile

  1. I can imagine how painful a fractured pelvis would be. I cannot imagine a body of water frozen that solidly. Maybe someday I will travel north during the winter to see it.
    (Maybe not)

  2. I'm glad to hear Far Guy is pain free. And I know how painful a fractured pelvis is. It's hard to describe, but it's the center of your body and everything radiates out from there. I'm keeping all of you in my prayers...

  3. Prayers for Far Guy and your mother, I was in a auto accident many years broke my pelvis oh, my God was that painful did not give me much pain medicine, in the late 60's they never believed in it much, was up very quickly it made me almost vomit, they forced me to walk and not get blood clots in my legs to my lungs, etc..so I was told to move, move I did I was young, healed fast, but when it gets icy, cold and snowing here I feel it in every part of my body, I just exercise and keep moving..Hopefully your hubby and Mom will heal very quickly and that you will be able to get some rest tooooo..

  4. The auto accident in 1966 in southern california, near a beach town, tiny hospital, took good care of me, but made me walk soon after breaking my pelvis..not much pain medication, the doctors and nurses never believed in that,I healed I was very young and to this day when it gets, icy, snowing and cold I can feel it in every part of my body..oh, my..The lake looks great, but I would never walk on ice I never want to break my pelvis ever ever again, so I stick to dirt and grass and sidewalks free of snow & ice.

  9. That is really interesting about the ice on the lake. Is it when it gets cold really fast that you get so much 'vocalizing'?
Glad to hear Far Guy is doing well and doing as you tell him:)
I find it hard to believe that your mum could be going home so soon, considering how others are describing a broken pelvis. All the very best to her.

  10. Oh, your poor mom. I feel so badly for her - but that she could be going home fairly soon is probably a bright light for her.
Keep on that guy... whether he gets testy or not!!!

  13. On the ice you hear the expansion as the water freezes. The pressure ridges are caused by expansion.
Good to hear that Far Guy is on the mend. I hope that your mother continues to progress on what will be a long recovery.

  17. I wonder what Chance thinks of a talking lake? ;)
It does get dark so early. I'm writing this at about 3:30pm and within half an hour it will be almost night.
I'm glad you're keeping a close eye on FarGuy...whether he likes it or not! ;) And glad your brother is there, too.
My one grandma lived to be 104, but she wasn't a wonderful roommate by that time--LOL! I hope your mom's pain is kept at bay and she heals quickly.
After all the excitement...whew!...I hope YOU are taking time out to just plain relax and pet Chance, too. :)

  20. That is good news about Far Guy. I wish it were better news about your mom. Sounds so miserable for her with all that pain. It may be a long recovery. Best wishes to her.

  21. It's good to hear that Far Guy is doing better. He does need to take it easy for awhile though and so do you. So sorry about your mom, but excited to hear about the 104 year old room mate. Bet that's interesting. Take care and stay warm and cozy.

  22. Glad to hear Far Guy is doing better. Is your mother not going to a rehab for a while? If she is going home, make sure the discharge planner is arranging home care.
