I promised I would tell you what I got for my birthday. Of course what I asked for wasn’t just something that is found in every 5 and 10 cent store anymore..years ago perhaps.
I asked for a Shiny Brite Tree Topper.
Far Guy found one..in it’s original box!
Here is some of my loot.
The old photographs are from my daughter Jen along with one of my favorite treats Chipsters..potato chips covered in chocolate…they are not in the photo..I put them in the fridge:)
The sunflower bowl and the sunflower table runner are gifts from Jo.
I got a pair of orange crocs from my parents and some money. I bought a cookbook that I had my eye on all summer. It is a collection of recipes from all the Hubbard County Homemakers’ Clubs from their Christmas Fair Booklets 1967 to 1985. I do know some of those cooks. Far Guy got his hopes up for just a few seconds..he thought I would make some of the recipes in the book. Not real likely as I just like to read cookbooks.
I got cards in the mail and many wonderful birthday wishes on Facebook and here on the blog..Thanks everyone for your good wishes! I think I have finally accepted the idea that I am now sixty and older than dirt. That would be just regular dirt..not the guy known as Dirt who is married to Lanny:)
That tree topper looks tall - - it is so pretty! One of my favorite colors. That is a pretty special husband to search like that for a gift you wanted.
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE Jo's gift to you - - what woman wouldn't?!!!
Love your bday loot! Thought of you guys while in Duluth = there is a huge (huge) antique store there = and the Depot Museum, I can see Far Guy wandering around for days... if you haven't been there you need to go! Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat Shiny Brite tree topper is a real find! You are a pretty special person to have such great family and friends, Connie, but I already knew that! Glad you had a birthday to remember! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure that 'Shiny Brite' tree topper is to behold! I haven't seen one in years.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you made quite the haul for your birthday sweetie. Beautiful gifts for a beautiful gal!
God bless and have a fantastic weekend sweetie!!!
Lovely gifts. Have a wonderful day !
ReplyDeleteSplendid collection of gifts - Happy Birthday.
ReplyDeleteHA! My step-nephew always told my dad the he was older than dirt... Dad got such a hoot out of it.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the old tree topper. Wondering if anyone on Etsy sells them. Hmmm..
Happy B-day!
Great Birthday gifts! Doesn't matter what they are, it matters that they make you happy:)
ReplyDeleteWay to go Far Guy - that tree topper is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI also love Jo's sunflower gifts to you - so cheerful!
The chips sound very unusual and love those old photos too.
Have a wonderful weekend, friend.
I really liked your "tree topper", Connie. My mom had one just like it that I fondly remember.
ReplyDeleteAlso wondering where those "corporate soybean farmers" actually live. Probably Texas or New York City....
Love the old pictures and the tree topper. Is it from the 50's. Far Guy is a great treasure hunter. I think your family pays attention. I've never heard of chocolate covered chips. I'm not a chocolate fan, but that sounds really good. Sounds like you had a great Bithday.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday. The topper looks wonderful. I hope there is room at the top of the tree before it hits the high ceiling.
ReplyDeleteI remember those shiny brite tree toppers!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Far Side! :)
Love the Christmas tree thingy, brings back very fond memories of ornaments on my grandparents' tree. Happy B'day! Potato chips covered in chocolate? Oh my. Older 'n dirt? Well, some dirt is wonderful stuff-- full of rich nutrients that bring forth abundant life...
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lot of thought went into your birthday gifts. I'm glad you had a great birthday. I think everyone of them should be celebrated as a red letter day.
ReplyDeleteI adore the tree topper!! My sister is the QUEEN of finding great stuff like that!! And the rest is golden.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Far Side. It looks like you had a very good day.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it pays to become older then dirt. Was great see you all today.
ReplyDeletePotato chips covered in chocolate - what delicious sin!
ReplyDeleteAnd I adore that tree topper. Just lovely.
In the fridge my eye......I'll bet you ate them and didn't share;)))))
ReplyDeleteSounds like your hubby and family listen to what you want..Love the tree topper I have one from 1978 just like it in it's original carton..we don't put up trees much, artificial or live, too many cats (4) and they liked to get into the tree, bad kitty club members so I just put out christmasy and hanukkahy things, our daughter rarely comes home for the holidays she pops in after Xmas and Hanukkah we celebrate then and buy her what she wants all on big sales..she likes that a lot..Happy 60th birthday late, you are not older than dirt, my SIL is the same age and she is doing fine..just fears aging as her kids have really never grown up, always borrowing money, etc. her time, she cannot say NO to grown children, our daughter was the only girl grandchild and she was independent from the day she could walk, so different indeed..happy happy Fall to come..
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! Mine was yesterday, so I'm sharing your presents vicariously:).
ReplyDeleteWe're back, and thanks for checking on Odda and playing. Now we need to go riding together!!! I went by myself today and got a few pics too. We'll have to recelebrate your Bday and have cake! Glad you're now just about as old as me!!!!
ReplyDeleteAhh but you are older than him! Thanks for the shout out at the end it made my day, er night, er very late night! And hey, I do believe that tree topper counts as a very romantic present. Big changes in your sixties eh?
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday-love the tree topper!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, a little late. I was on vacation and out of touch with a computer. Love the tree top.
