I heard of a new program that the local Veterans Service Officer is becoming involved with. Dogs for Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The dog is obedience trained, and afterwards goes through a short amount of specialized training. The dog blocks people from approaching a Veteran from the back. The dog will lay right on top of the Veterans feet if the Veteran is getting nervous and stressed out.
Those of us with pets, either dogs or cats know how great they are as stress relievers.
Far Guy asked me to take photographs of all these military patches last weekend on one of the Eagle Staffs at the Pow Wow.
Do you see the PTSD patch? It says P.T.S.D. ALL WOUNDS ARE NOT VISIBLE.
I see no end to our Military involvement in other countries. It seems to me that we police the world. It is not fair that our best and brightest young men and women go to war. Send in some of those fancy talking politicians from Washington DC for awhile:)
Great post ! Yes I agree send in the pencil pushers see how they do ! Have a wonderful day !
ReplyDeleteyou are so right!
ReplyDeleteAmen, Far Side.
ReplyDeleteIt is the best and brightest who are sacrificed to some political end. Just because it's always been that way doesn't mean it can't stop. I pray for it to end. Thanks for the picture of all those badges. I studied them for a while and am humbled at what they represent.
ReplyDeleteFantastic post.
ReplyDeleteI think they should all come home. If they must serve our country then let it be here. God knows we need the help.
Thumbs up!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great program. Those of us with animals know how much power they have to influence our hearts!
I agree with Gail....and with, I believe it was Winston Churchill, who said, (to paraphrase), nursing mothers with children under 2 years of age should be in charge of the world. That would end all wars.
ReplyDeleteThat is one powerful photo! It speaks volumes about service and sacrifices that so often go unacknowledged.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. M. Lane
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Our service men and women don't get the recognition they deserve.
ReplyDeleteI fully agree with you. These are countries that have never been at peace. They have neve had "democratic elections". We are in the situation of "No good dead goes unpunished." I know all of us support our troops. We're just not so sure about what got them there.
ReplyDeleteGreat post COnnie!
ReplyDeleteif there was some heavenly rule about whoever starts it has to be on the front line
ReplyDeleteAmen to that!
ReplyDelete"Far Side of Fifty" has been included in this weeks A Sunday Drive. I hope this helps to attract even more new visitors.
