Last Monday I noticed that our Yellow Lady’s Slippers were blooming. It happened so fast, but right on time. We had 16 blooms this year..they were awesome!
There are 42 different species of Orchids in Minnesota. I have seen three..maybe four..perhaps even five. I say maybe because I have seen a much smaller yellow lady slipper on several occasions. I think that there may be about three yellow varieties. The yellow ones along our back road are not even up yet, they will bloom around Father’s Day, so I think they are a totally different variety too.
Far Guy, Chance and I took off for the Wildlife Refuge. It is one of my favorite places. I knew where to look for the Lady Slippers.
These were all shy.
These were just as beautiful as can be. It was a wonderful afternoon spent in the refuge, a cemetery and a antique shop..my favorite kind of day:)
My kind of day!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers...I have not seen them here.
Yup me to, deffinatly my kind of day ! Lovely photos !
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen those flowers here, but maybe they would grow up the mountains in the wild flower meadows.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun, relaxing day:)
They are so cute! And of course they are YELLOW, your very favorite.

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the beautiful flowers with us, Far Side. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like me kind of day also. I love lady slippers. We have lots of pink ones but yellow ones around here are rare.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day
Isn't it nice to see some things as dependable as returning flowers and birds. Your lady's slippers are beautiful. Nothing like that here.
ReplyDeleteYou have some of most interesting flowers...the kind we never see here.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.

I wish I could have that kind of day more often.
ReplyDeleteLove those kind of days and those lady's slippers are so pretty! Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful. Love seeing flowers in the wild or in the expressway medians.
ReplyDeleteFlowers make my day - especially when the weatherman says La Nina has left the building in the Pacific Northwest!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post. Reminds me of a stroll I took with your boy about a mile down the middle of a creek, then up a smaller creek, where overlooking the water was a patch of pink lady slippers. It took my breath away. The Forest Service guy who told me about it said "not to tell anyone, it's a secret", and for obvious reasons -- unscrupulous people wouldn't hesitate to dig them up.
ReplyDeleteOh so lovely!
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I've seen this flower in bloom...what a treat! Great pics and post! I'm now your new follower! Won't you come over and become our follower too? We'd love having you! Hugs! Loretta
ReplyDeleteI've only seen those yellow ones once in the mountains of NC. I remember seeing pink lady slippers in my granddad's pasture when I was young. Great post!
ReplyDeleteYou love those Lady's Slippers. Seems like you talked about them last year. Are those some the deer like, too? Do they bloom very long or do you have to be on the lookout so they don't get missed?
ReplyDeleteSo cool that you have your secret spots to find them.
ReplyDeleteOccasionally I see them at nurseries...not often.

Wow - that is glorious!
ReplyDeleteWe had some that grew on the top of the bank at the lake in Grand Rapids. They are a wonderful wild flower.
