Indigo Bunting

This year were are fortunate to have Bluebirds and Indigo Buntings in our yard.  The Bluebirds have finally decided which house they wanted..the one on the back driveway.

The very showy Indigo Bunting Male has been here.  His not so beautiful partner ( she is brownish not beautiful blue) must be hanging around here someplace.

Indigo Bunting

Far Guy moved the patio furniture out of my garage and everyday after work we sit out there and watch the birds.

Indigo Bunting in the rain

Chance and I even sat out there one day when it was raining. The birds are used to Chances comings and goings.

The loon nest that I follow in Minnesota, had a successful hatch of two babies this year.  It was great to see both little fuzzy brown chicks on the nest this afternoon.  Last year neither of the eggs hatched..so this years hatch was a real treat! :)

  1. Hi Connie, I am thrilled to hear that the loon eggs hatched!
About this time last year, we had a male Indigo Bunting to come to the same window all day long and peck! I had never seen one in person until then. They really are quite showy!
Hope you have a good day.

  2. I had a chance to see an Indigo at my feeder in the northwoods also. Do they hang around all summer in MN? We just get them for a few days while in transit. Enjoy them.

  5. I have never seen one, not sure if they come around to these parts. I have seen bluebirds, I think, but I would certainly remember one of these guys! Great pictures, Connie.

  7. Bird watching is a wonderful hobby. We have four different kinds of woodpeckers in our back wood from the tiniest Downy to the handsome Pilated. Bluebirds are here year round. By far the most entertaining is the Mockingbird, he has such a variety of songs.
Now can you tell me what is the rule about capitalizing bird names.

  10. Good news about the loon hatch. Your Indigo Buntings are beautiful. We have Lazuli Buntings here but only for a few weeks. So bright and cheery on the edge of a cold wet spring.

  11. I'm so happy for the hatch. To lose even one hatchling in the bird world is always a bit sad for me. They are such huge helpers in world of bugs and flowers.

  13. Great photo. It's always fun to see something unusual at the feeder. I get finches and an occasional Cardinal. Nothing fun. My hummingbirds are back though. They are fun.

  14. What an amazing color that bird has. Our showiest birds here are the Stellar Jays, more of a shocking blue...

    Great shots of the birds.

  15. The idea of sitting outside, relaxing and watching the birds is so appealing! We used to do that.... hmmm, maybe we can get back in the habit!
I used to go to camp in Canada. One of my favorite memories was lying in bed listening to the Loons. One year a Loon rammed our canoe. I guess we were too close to a nest!

  17. They are such pretty birds! I had to go to google chrome to be able to comment on your blog! I have been checking in to see you though! I finally put my house plants out on our back porch and put the fish in the fish pond! Yay summer is coming.

  18. Hi COnnie, bird watching is such great fun and free entertainment. Took some time to read a few previous posts and enjoyed the one showing the growth progression of the grands - very nice looking.

  19. I'm so jealous.

There are both plenty of bluebirds and the Indigo buntings in my neighborhood - they just don't come to my feeders. However, the year that my 3rd was born - a group of the buntings showed up the week he was born. I felt it was a good sign.

  20. The loons - - I do remember they did not hatch last year and I missed it this year. Are they already gone for the summer?
