My Hydrangea paniculata ‘Pee Gee’ is putting on quite a show. A couple of years ago I was about ready to give up on it because it was not blooming. To look at it now you would never know that it was a “problem child.” Perhaps it heard the conversation I had with my eleven year old non blooming Forsythia “Bloom or I am going to mow you down.” My Hydrangea has finally settled in and is sporting lots of blooms this year. About time. There is no hope for that darn old Forsythia..I really should mow it down or move it..
Up here in Minnesota we cannot grow very many Hydrangeas, ‘Annabelle’ and ‘Pee Gee’ are the most reliable. Forget the fancy Blue and Pink Lace caps and the Mop heads. Plain old white blooms..that is what we can grow the best:)
This is beautiful. Maybe if you could find the old fashioned line that Granny Pruett had, they would fare better. She would bury iron under the plant to change the color of the flower.

ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful pictures. I just passed our grafted Pee Gee in the garden and similarly marveled at its rich ivory colour.
ReplyDeleteOur Forsythia is prolific in the spring. It is such a brilliant happy yellow and generally one of the first things blooming against the old browns left from winter. We see it right after the snow crocus. Your hydrangeas are beautiful. Thanks for sharing them. (And it just goes to show that sometimes threats do work better than encouragement!)

ReplyDeleteConnie, you have outdone yourself with these photos. Such pretty blossoms and I love Chance in the background. I don't have luck with any hydrangeas here. They really are pretty and many folks around here, dry the blooms and insert little bouquets on their Christmas trees.

ReplyDeleteI had the talk with Miss Pee Gee and the Forsthia must have taken it to heart but Miss Pee Gee ignored me and I had to do daway with her.
