Recently we had lunch at the waterfront in Walker, Minnesota. It was fun to watch the sailboats zip back and forth. Chance loved watching the Seagulls. I was taking some photographs for a photography challenge, so while Far Guy walked Chance I got some time to just be one with the scenery. We weren't the only people that found this tucked away spot to picnic and watch the water, a really elderly couple pulled in and proceeded to recline their seats and have an afternoon nap. It didn't take long for them to doze off and begin to snore they must have been pretty tired. Oh yes I was tempted to take a photograph..but I didn't.
The Culver's Root (the white flower) was in full bloom as was the Fireweed.
Fireweed is also called Epilobium angustifolium, it has a spike type flower. It is a native plant, that is often found in areas that have had forest fires. It often grows in large patches. I was very happy to find this shore-land restoration planting in full bloom:)
Cute story about the elderly couple. Looks like a beautiful day to be out. I bet Chance really enjoyed his walk.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are color-perfect - - the lavenders, blues, and greens. I have often wanted to sleep outside during the day but how does one not get eaten by mosquitoes or even spiders? Or is that just in our yard we have to worry about it? Plus I enjoy our a/c more than the fresh air in the summertime!
ReplyDeleteSimply gorgeous. What an ideal spot for a picnic. I like the color of the Fireweed. After a forest fire, it would be a wonderful sight knowing that regrowth of something so pretty is possible after such devastation.

I love fireweed! Did you know that there is an old wive's tale that when the top of the flower is in bloom that autumn is here? It works out to be true a lot!

My daughter and I were just talking about fireweed. She was telling that her beekeeper buddies said that if it grows where there wasn't fire something is different about it, at least for the bees. The bees that they took up to a logged but not burned area to feed on the fireweed all died. Isn't that intriguing, I wonder what was going on. We were talking about it because, like her momma she lets "weeds" grow in her gardens and yards.

ReplyDeleteAh... northern Minnesota! We spent many summers at Long Lake, near Park Rapids at the family cabin. What a treat to come here and be reminded of those times.
