I have had a lot of time for quiet reflection lately. Some of it has been not so quiet as I would share with Far Guy from my spot on the couch. Sometimes I would get his attention and he would join me for an in depth discussion. More often than not he would holler "Turn the channel, you are supposed to be resting."
Tomorrow things are supposed to change, quite magically at noon when Obama takes the oath of office. I am sure that gas prices will go down immediately and food prices in the stores will be immediately adjusted. 401K's and investments will immediately be restored to their highest values. Everyone that wants a job will have one. Homes that were purchased on a wing and prayer for credit, will magically be worth way more than what they were appraised at. Short sales will be a thing of the past. No one will be homeless and no one will be hungry. Everyone will have access to health care. Things are going to be just hunky dory and milk and honey will flow through the streets once again. I am looking forward to all these wonderful changes, I just can't wait..but I won't be holding my breath. I hope he wears some kind of head covering so he doesn't catch some deadly virus, with ears the size of his, he must have to be extra careful..maybe he should wear a scarf.
The excitement totally escapes me. The Media frenzy is laughable, and often I view it as a comedy. Over 100 Million dollars will have been spent, couldn't they have just done a quiet potluck picnic. Well with that much being spent on just one day when we are in a Recession that is looking more like a Depression everyday..it seems like a rather high-falutin beginning to a bad nightmare.
I do have a couple of questions..where is that puppy? And where does the line form for the Rose Colored Glasses? :)
Well thank you for putting into words what I was thinking! At least, they could have combined the big expensive party with the Super Bowl and saved a litte!
ReplyDeleteAs someone living in Europe, I'm looking forward to having Obama in office. But, as you say, the media focus and hysteria seems unjustifiable when you think about what is happening in Gaza, for example.
ReplyDeleteYour words are so well put. And a refreshing look at the state of things.
ReplyDeleteThank you for putting into words what so many of us (jaded?) watchers are thinking. Bless you this day and throughout this year. Am so glad you are feeling better. Not watching things at the (white house) Mary E
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it will make you feel any better about the planned festivities, but the government will only pay for about $50MM of that -- the rest is from private donations. He's spending approximately the same amout Bush spent on his 2005 inauguration.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking about the Busby Berkley musicals that were so popular during the 1930's -- pageantry seems to be a common distraction in times of economic woe.
Next will be a monument, taller than the Washington Monumnet (of course) and it has to be built by the end of February but this guy is JUST SO AMAZING. Then we need to forget MLK day and make it AMAZING BHO day.
ReplyDeleteoh, sorry...it is just that we DO NOT Know anything about him, or what and how he is going to do.
I really would hate to be him, he can not make ANY Mistakes, ever. Being human is a little easier on everyone.

As a outsider, [Canadian] we have watched the hoopla and the hope increase daily. I only hope that this man has wide shoulders, for he has a heavy burden. Who knows what will happen when the honeymoon is over. But then again, he knows what he is getting into, and any change is a good change.

in two words... well said :)

I am with Muddy Boots, (not the outsider part), but the hoping his shoulders are wide & strong enough to hold up the burden that is being bestowed on him. It's overwhelming and I'd feel for who ever is going to be walking in those shoes!
ReplyDeleteThe money aspect and news frenzy? It's absurd! Donations,Gvt funding or not. That is a ton of money that could benefit so many other issues.
Way to go Connie, wish I had said that! I don't think any of us have any idea who this man is or what he stands for.
ReplyDeleteI'm praying for him...
ReplyDeleteand for the rest of us.
Well said, my friend! It should be an interesting 4 years. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're feeling a bit better! Take care now!
ReplyDeleteI thought I was the only one who felt this way. All of the attention is just fluff. It helps that he had the mainstream media on his side. It looks like a long honeymoon. The money spent is obsene.
ReplyDeleteIt will be an interesting ride...
