Hark! Back! Issue #3

Hark! Back! Is a look back at blogs that appeared in a now defunct blogging site before I started with blogger in September of 2008.  They are in no particular order.

Blog post from January 10, 2008

12 X 12 Paper

Well I am a scrapbooker...12 x 12  inch paper is one thing I collect...I have a special plastic box with a cover that I keep in the car...just incase I happen to run across a scrapbooking shop.  Years ago when I first started scrapbooking there were lots of scrapbook stores...I should have opened one then...come to think of it I probably have enough paper to open one now.

I shop for paper seriously and with wild abandon...there was one store that I spent three hours in...just in the paper aisle...luckily after three hours my daughter Jen said "Mother it is time to go home." Lord only knows how long I would have stayed in that store if she had not been with me....maybe I would still be there...how many days would have passed before Far Guy would have reported me missing?

Other than normal solid colors in every shade and hue you can think of...I shop for paper that evokes a feeling...and at my age I have had a lot of feelings over the years...so I have a lot of paper.

Far Guy finally designed and built me a custom scrapbooking desk.  The desk is accessible from both sides, it has twenty drawers believe it or not it does hold all my 12 x 12 in paper...for now:)

Update

I still look at paper in Hobby Lobby that is about the only store that has paper anymore.  My desk still has a fair share of scrapbook papers.  I have one scrapbook that I need to finish but mostly I use the paper to make cards.

That is what is happening on my desk now...card making...yes it is a controlled for now mess.

Believe it or not Chance used to lay down under that desk.  It became a great place to store other "craft stuff."  So no space for a dog to rest anymore.

  1. My wife has been using her freedom this spring to create some scrapbooks for the girls. So we have a fair supply of 12 by 12 paper on our dining table and I've had to tell my wife it is time to go home from the paper aisle of the local hobby store.

  2. I’ve never got hooked on scrap booking. Sister Helen liked it. I know you miss Chance. I miss Phinnie!

  3. What a beautiful desk! I did not know FG could do woodworking. Did he make your kitchen cabinets, also? What other things has he created? You are both remarkable in the creativity and talent you possess. It's like you occasionally reveal another layer of your lives with the things you tell us.
Scrapbooking stores - - - - LOVED them! You are correct that they did not have longevity. Such a shame because they were even more fun than Staples or Office Depot which I love, too. I am one who owns more of that stuff than I should but did not have a creative eye like my daughter. Plus I would get overwhelmed with choices of what I should do and then second guess myself. At least that is the best way I can analyze it. In present day, I would be happy to have all the pics sorted and labeled.

    1. Yes we made the kitchen cupboards too...most of them! The first ones that are a pantry and around the fridge were built by a friend and then he got too busy so he gave Far Guy lessons on how to build cabinets.

  5. That's a beautiful desk. I did some scrapbooking years ago, and still have one plastic container of papers left. It's only about 2" thick and maybe 1/3 full. I let the grandkids use some of the paper for crafts in the past.

  6. I enjoy reading your blog. I, too, used to scrapbook a lot and when we would go on vacation to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, my daughter and I would spend hours at the scrapbook store there. They had any kind of paper you could imagine along with anything else you could want for scrapping.

  8. That desk is amazing and a treasure for sure. My best friend in Omaha, Barb is an avid scrapbooker. She goes to a class every Friday for hours with another mutual friend. She has more scrapbooks than anyone I know and a workstation in the basement that is unbelievable. Whenever we do anything she is taking photo after photo.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  11. What a wonderful real-time all those drawers!
Years ago I did a bit of scrapbooking. One was for my Dad when he went into the nursing home. It contained photos and stories from his life. I don't know if any of the staff ever looked at it.

  12. After not scrapbooking for a couple of years I'm back into it now as there have been some family changes and additions. I needed a reason to scrapbook.

  16. Wow, that is a nice work space for crafting. You've reminded me I have some plastic drawers of paper to purge soon. I just don't use it anymore.

  17. LD...I now buy scrap booking paper for origami paper. A 33 pound weight paper will cut into four six inch squares. That desk is wonderful.
