Big Ball

of yarn.  I had a whole bunch of little balls of yarn...so I made one big ole ball of yarn.

I started with brown and ended with brown.   I am using a 3.5 hook and am doing the linen stitch.  Easily done while watching tv.   It will make a blanket...not sure how big but it is what it is.

We had a quiet day on Sunday.  My other baby brother and she who sees robins first came over to visit.

I napped in the afternoon.
Supper was left over pork ribs, corn and a baked potato.

Minnesota weather: High 40F or 4C  Low was 24F or -4C.   We are in a fire watch.

  1. Far Side of Fifty, I have not heard of the linen stitch, so now I have to go check that out. Enjoy.

  2. The big ball of yarn makes a statement of it's own. It will be exciting to see the blanket with the colors mix of blue and brown. We have had so much rain lately and our fire burn has finally been lifted. Have a good day Connie....sending a big hug to you..

  3. We are in Fire Watch here too in SW Georgia. We had so much rain in the autumn but we are still in drought conditions, with wind and low humidity too. Dawn P. Albany, GA

  5. Perhaps I need to send you some of the snow we keep getting (more later this week). It's sad to hear that fire season can be happening so early in the year.
That will be a fun blanket!

  6. Good morning! What a project-reminder is your yarn ball, so I have put together a little message about an old hobby of mine, too, and I hope it will inspire you.
Temari. In Japan the least little remnant scrap was saved and used to make colorful little balls for children to play with. The scrap was the start of the ball core, more scraps and threads were wound around that until you had a workable size to decorate. I usually liked mine to fit into my hand comfortably.

There are many ways to start the “ball” core, but seeing your huge yarn ball makes me think that is also a good way to start the core. If you’ve never seen one or made one, I think both you and Jen would enjoy the process. I made around 100 of them and most were sold at the St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth, annual meeting. They were part of the silent auction. As a volunteer at the entry desk people would see me working on one and ask about it, even buying one while I sat there.
I also made a small purse to hold the few needles, threads, small scissors and pincushion and it was so easy to carry wherever I had to sit for awhile: planes, waiting rooms etc. It was really a conversation starter!

  8. Love scrap balls of yarn. It's always a bit of a surprise which color shows up next. So many people are dealing with droughts already this spring. What will it be like by summers end? Scary times we're living in.
    Blessings,

  9. I may try making a big ball of yarn. It’s a neat idea. I get a lot of ideas from you. Thanks.

Pooh, it’s cold again there. Not very warm here either but much warmer than 40 degrees.

  10. I don't know if our relative humidity goes down to 20 but it does get uncomfortably low. Hopefully there will be no fires.
